Halftime down a goal, and very disappointing. Howard looked his age on their goal (brain cramp on his distribution). Wasn't as convinced as Twellman whether or not it was a penalty on Jozy. Most frustrating aspect for me is the PATHETIC showing from our supporters. I thought we were past having half the crowd cheering for the visiting team.

This was what I was afraid of when we recycled Bruce Arena. Honduras will be a struggle.

Honduras went of the road and got a win at T&T, Mexico did just enough to keep Panama 1 point back at Azteca(1-0). El Tri is in, the Ticos will likely punch their ticket on Tues (hosting Mexico, who'll likely be experimenting). Panama play T&T at home to move their point total to 10, so it's gut check time in Honduras.

That was depressing to watch. The team I saw last night has no chance of getting out of the group stage at the World Cup.

I don't see us winning at San Pedro Sula. It'll be a major accomplishment to rescue a point. The performances under Arena so far have been less than impressive. Even if we do manage to qualify, what sac says is true: won't make it out of the group stage. But if we don't get better quick, the unthinkable could happen. Maybe that's what needs to happen. I don't know much about how Sunil Gulati runs U.S. Soccer, but it seems that a change at the very top is in order. Our form since Brazil is unacceptable. We're regressing, and that shouldn't be. Player pride and good ol' American guts only go so far. Tuesday night and October 6th and 10th are going to be very interesting indeed. Perhaps not only for the Russia, but the immediate future of American soccer itself.

Another putrid half of football. Shockingly bad to be blunt.

Feels like we stole that point, especially after it looked like they were going to put it away in the 78th minute. I'll take it.

The one word that sums up the most recent Arena Era is "uninspired." We continue to pretend that we're not one of the four footballing sides in CONCACAF. We start every match as if we were a goal down. We watch our back door before we think attack -- even at home to TNT.

We also like to be lazy, for some reason. There's at least 5 times I can think of when a Honduras attack broke down in our penalty area and not a single US player could be bothered to trot over and usher it out. Shocking.

positives? Geoff Cameron. His substitution gave us a more solid defense AND midfield in one fell swoop.
biggest negative? Deuce. I can't remember when I saw him have a more useless match. To do so with so much on the line is amazing

I can think of one worse, Graham Zusi. Apparently Capt Manbun thinks when your man blows by you, you can stop and watch because he's the next guy's problem now. He also seems to think it's acceptable for a rb to jog when tracking back even if the ball is in his end.

What do you want to bet after watching Nagbe and Pulisic try to take guys on 1-v-1 only to be swatted off the ball like gnats over and over again, Deuce thought F it. That doesn't make it right, but he wouldn't be anywhere close to the first footballer I've seen that from.

I thought all of the subs were positive and improved the side. Wouldn't mind seeing Arriola given a shot at rb next match, in fact.

Horrible. Sure it was enough to get a result against Honduras, but it will get us nowhere against any team outside of CONCACAF.

I'm a bit flummoxed by Arena's decision again to send out a mostly different lineup from the previous qualifier. I suppose it worked against Mexico last time, but it seems to be limiting quality game time where players can get a better feel for their teammates. Beasley looked every bit like a player that's retired from international play at least twice.

I'm also surprised that none of the US squad seemingly realized that the pitch was very very slow. Crosses and passes that rolled to the corners were never picked up by an American. They had all stopped and were apparently getting ready for a throw in/free kick while Honduras kept grabbing the ball and starting a new attack.

I agree with others that there was too much jogging by our defensive players. Sometimes it seemed like they were all happy to congregate at the spot and wait for Honduras to bring the ball into the box.

Arena better come up with and implement a solid plan for the last two matches or we're likely looking at a play-in game or worse, some tee times.

The fact that we're starting Beasley in a meaningful qualifier in 2017 pretty much says it all

New blood. That's what was needed after deciding to part ways with Klinsmann. New blood on the roster, and new blood on the touchline. Instead, we're looking at the natural continuation of a failed regime from this manager's previous stint. Loyalty's fine, but even I can see Beasley and others have overstayed their welcome in international football. Are these truly the best healthy players we have right now? What are they doing in practice, because you really can't tell if they've played with each other before...ever.
Is it too late to sack Arena? Are we stuck with him through October? If we don't qualify, I guess not. But even if we do, we shouldn't bother going to Russia because, base on our performances so far under him, we'll be lucky to get a point in the group stage. The players seem disinterested, as if they lack confidence in him. It shows on the pitch. When a guy like Dempsey starts mailing it in, you've got bigger problems than talent.

LB and RB need to be sorted b/c as of now, they are #*&^$ poor. Lima, from the 'Quakes, would be an improvement over Zusi, as would Timmy Chandler. They're myriad others but nobody at the US has the cohones to call up a radical change. More of the same is an apt description, however, maybe it was simply two $hitty matches. That happens, but I don't see the impetus for change - the US should be positive in their approach and attack - Pulisic can't do it alone and Wood needs to play 90 - let Jozy be the sub. I'm not sure I saw a #8 out there - that was shocking. Morris ran his ass off but to no effect

All in all (is all we are), win two more matches and roll the dice next year. That's not a foreign theme for the US squad at World Cups and let's hope Arena figures out personnel for the next round - I wouldn't be hopeful of playing Australia/Syria in a playoff match.

After last night, I have accepted that I'll just be a casual observer to Russia 18. Time we missed one and woke the fuck up.

I read somewhere that Arena didn't consider Chandler because he was going with people that he had seen. So apparently if you weren't called into the first camp or two then you're SOL.

Didn't one of the announcers say that Arena has said that his focus is 2018? Not let's start bringing in some young talent and get them into the fold in an effort to make a smooth transition into the next generation. He has purposefully a bunch of old guys based on their experience and his knowledge of them. Maybe he'll rope Jermaine Jones or Beckerman into the next qualifiers.

Alexi Lalas absolutely went off on the MNT during a halftime rant on the Galaxy-Sounders broadcast last night.

I post without comment, as I already regret getting him more views by sharing this.
