They say the Rosenblatt Stadium parking lot is filled with LSU trailers so

. . . . . it's the geeks vs the trailer trash. What could be more ugly.

Yes we're trailer trash, swamp creatures, and drunks... but we play baseball good.

We have 5 national championships to elitist Rices' 1. We also have very fast women (this year's outdoor's national champions and countless others).

This year's baseball team is kind of a miracle though. They're green and only made into the tournament by winning like 24 games in row. Before the run they wouldn't have even qualified for one the SEC tournament, let alone a regional.

Losing to UNC was predictable. I'd bet on a Rice win as well. Our team's pitching is less than stellar. The CF is also injured from the regional. Couldn't hit jack yesterday.

I watched those LSU women this weekend. . . they were indeed awesome and fast.

The college world series announcers also said those LSU trailers are there every year regardless of whether LSU is in the series or not. That is pretty cool.

I would normally say good luck, but considering the circumstances, I have to say Go Owls!!!!!!!!!!!! Let's kick some drunken, swampy, trailer trash butt.

Yeah, LSU fans travel well. They love Omaha especially. When the team is good they get about 5,000 fans per game. It's a lot like a minor league baseball game. Wonderful atmosphere.

This team does have some character to it though and should go down fighting.

Sorry job. Wish it didn't have to be Rice. Got to hate that 9th inning come back. That Louisiana lagniappe can be something else.

    Better luck next year.

Had to look that one up. Thanks for the vocab lesson.

Congrats to LSU. They've grown on me now so I'll be pulling for them instead of Standford.

I should have known not to start a thread about this. I doomed Rice from the start.

While it's grasping at straws, look at the bright side Mo, at least ya'll weren't the first ones out. You lasted longer than Felon State.

I think I'm using the word correctly or how I learned it... as "to give a little something extra". The dictionary meaning is more specific and has to do with getting a little something extra out of a purchase. People in Louisiana use it more broadly than that these days, imo.

Have to give props to Fresno State. They are the antithesis to what you associate w/major California Universities. The city of Fresno might has well be in Kansas when compared to the Bay area or SoCal. The entire San Joaquin Valley are fully behind the Bulldogs and their fan base follows their team (no matter the sport) more like a college fans back east and in the south.

Tomorrow's headline in a paper near you '______________ (fill in blank) is Top Dog in Omaha'.

Battle of the Bulldogs (Georgia v Fresno State) tonight in a winner take all. The NCAA deadened (word?) the aluminum bats a few years ago and the scores came back down to acceptable levels. Last night's game (19-10) was a bad flashback to the 90's-early 00's. Will either team have someone to roll out to the mound tonight?

That was a beat down last night. Georgia's pitchers kept getting the ball up in the zone and Fresno State's hitters kept showing them why it was a bad idea to do so. The funny thing was Katie and I had just gotten out the batting tee and we were working on starting with the hands high and finishing with the hands high. We turned on the ball game and Fresno State provided the video lesson for the day.

For the first time in this series Fresno will feature one of their regular starters tonight. They had burned their pitching just to get to the finals and knew going into the series that for the first two games they would be stringing four or five guys together to try and get through.

hmmm; 16 hours later and still no posts about the Bulldog's victory? Must not be a lot of Fulham footie fans from Fresno [ooooh alliteration!]

Here's from the SA Excuse-Nuisance: "Fresno State makes history" and from the front page teaser "Fairy tale for Fresno State" -- not much of a headline, and I was stunned to note that the article for the German-Turkey match got almost as much ink!

Congrats to Fresno State they deserved the victory and the championship trophy. The pitching performance was very good but the hitting performance by Detwiler was phenominal. Not a bad day at the plate for a fella with a detached thumb ligament. If memory serves me correct he finished 4-4 with 2 HR's and all six of Fresno's RBI's. I though the second HR was leaving the park when it came off his bat.

Georgia had chances to push runs across but hit into double plays at least twice to kill what could have been big innings. Even when Gordon Beckham hit his NCAA leading 28th HR the smirk on his face almost seemed to beg the question of why did that have to come with me leading off and no ducks on the pond.

    Well done Wonderdogs!

Big props goes to the little state school in Central CA. They are the lowest seeded team to win a national championship in any sport, ever. Hard to imagine a team that had to play its way into the tournament could go all the way.

Barry, I think the second homerun is still orbiting the city of Omaha. The kid drove in all of the team's runs and you knew it was destiny when he caught the final out. A great start for the pitcher whom they wanted 5 innings and he gave them 8.

I am a UGA fan, but those Pork Chops from the Deep South looked tired and out of shape compared to the Boys from the Valley.

    Congrats to California's FSU.

Thanks, RR. Although I would not have taken offense. If I am going to dish it out, I am prepared to take it.

I was frankly quite amazed to see how many California schools have won this competition since 1967, a baseball stat that was actually interesting.
