Always nice to see you check in Mr.Fog. The answer to why LSU leapfrogged Ohio State was their league and schedule coupled w/the Buckeyes first half vs Whisky. LSU mangled the #4 team (even though I thought Georgia was way overrated), Florida, Auburn, and most importantly beat Bama in Tuscaloosa. I have no doubt Ohio State is as good a team talent wise as there is, but they don’t have a signature win compared to the team from the Bayou.

Us old timers remember watching bowl games named after things that don't make money. In these modern times, it seems like a cheap imitation that you can still see between the billboards. Since all old people are idiots, nobody under (who knows) will get it anyway.

Take the Eat At Joe's Bowl, for example. Joe, of course, bought the bowl and wanted to change the name to "Joe Scores Again", with a picture of him scoring the winning touchdown at midfield, while carrying the ball on a serving tray. Since Joe could not be convinced that this was not "an innovative concept in sports entertainment" but rather "a commercial", they compromised on the current name and the footballs with Joe's smiling face. Joe was puzzled after the game that the biggest cheers were for the kickoffs and punts.

I had some shit-on-a-shingle during the Shit-on-a-Shingle Bowl, or maybe it was potato chips.

I thought the halftime gang riot at the 24 Hour Bail Bonds Bowl was a bit much.

I can't wait to see if they have rose bushes as obstacles, or if the opposing cheerleaders throw oranges at PAT attempts or something like that. That way EVERYONE can enjoy the game. Anyway, if old people say it's not the same, who cares because they're old people?

Now, since the next game is on, I'd better stop. I hope I didn't forget any ...

The Cotton Bowl isn’t played in the Cotton Bowl. But you can watch a hockey game there in four days time.

Right, and what if all uniforms had to be made entirely of cotton. Then the women and gay men could have fun waiting for the wardrobe malfunctions that will happen more frequently as the game went on. Old farts like me just don't understand the concept of total entertainment. JUST a football game? BORing.

Playoffs: Land Thieves per usual get absolutely stomped. I have no rational explanation why a team (and conference for that matter) has plenty of quality players to play a little defense. LSU looks fantastic, but again check the opponent. Joe Burrow was playing pitch and catch all night.

Clemson and Ohio State was a fantastic game w/2 teams that were Championship level. Thought Buckeyes were the better team, but Trevor Lawrence just took it to another level (w/a little help from the replay booth).

In Oregon for Holidays and was at a Duck bar for the Rose Bowl. Strange game, but wildly entertaining matchup. For my money there is still no better stadium in terms of aura in the entire US then a sold out Rose Bowl. It’s palpable and magical and bucket list worthy.

@encorespanish What a way to end the season for the Gophers!

@SoCalJoe I'll be honest, I had no expectations going up against a battle tested Auburn. I was hoping we could keep the score to within a couple of touchdowns of them. Much to my surprise, we gashed them with the old school time of possession offense and tired that amazing defense out. I'm very happy for the team and hopefully that enhances the program's image for future recruits!

I was watching the Idaho Potatoes Bowl. The winning coach had his team pour french fries on his head. Now I'm absolutely sure I've seen too many football games. Hopefully I'll be OK by next year.

A bunch of basketball schools from around here (Kentucky, Louisville and Western Kentucky) not only qualified for bowl games, but WON them! Only Indiana jumped the shark by losing in their bowl game. But, not too shabby for a bunch of hoops schools.

I really couldn’t believe IU didn’t see the onside kick coming.

LSU was on another level, and to beat 7 Top 10 teams this year speaks for itself.

Final thought of the season @dtowndough have to turn to the state of Mississippi. They will lead the nation in quips, quotes, and smack talk as Lane Kiffin (Ole Miss) and Mike Leach (MSU) have been hired. Both schools are stuck in same division as LSU, Bama, Auburn, and A&M so wins won’t necessarily be plentiful, but it will be entertaining. Going to miss Leach out here on the left coast, his breakdown of the Pac12 mascots and who would come out on top in a fight (Butch is the Wazzu mascot) is classic Leach:

So, I have to ask this question again ... whatever happened to defense in college football? Is it a case of over penalizing defensive players, or are those players chosen mostly for speed and/or mass and, as such, can't manage complex defensive skills?

The inability of top flight college and pro teams to hold vastly inferior opponents to fewer than 20 points is almost as irritating as watching routine fly outs settle in the center field seats in baseball.

SoCal. I can't wait for the locals to get a flavor of Leach after a few press conferences. It will be pure entertainment and I think they both did what they had to do to get any recognition in the SEC.
