I know "Team_of_McBrides" must have pulled a muscle or two by this time leaping out his seat. Gerrard just put in Liverpool's 5th against Besitkas [Crouch 1, Benayoun 3].

And what about Rosenborg. 0-2 up at Valencia! Wow!

Liverpool wasn't finished at 5. They put three more in the old onion bag as Tommy O Brien would say.

Had the TV on in the next room and got my cardio getting up to watch the replays. Crouch and Benayoun were amazing. I'm certain that this will be a slap to Benitez who doesn't like using them.

Having said that, I think we're better off for the Scoucers having put in 8 rather than to have been stymied and come out on Saturday angry.

    Let's get some Reds!

Most unexpected surge by considered also ran, Rosenborg. 0 - 2 winners against Valencia yesterday.

Let's Go Trillongan (Troll Children)!

Never felt more like singing the blues, when Celtic win, and Rangers lose!

Great stuff from the Hoops yesterday, and arguably McGeady's best game in a Celtic shirt. He's played a great string of matches lately, and pretty much offset the loss of Nakamura before the Benfica match.

Still awed by the Liverpool scoreline, hopefully they've used up their scoring magic in time to face us this weekend.

    Feckin' Magic!

    '90:00 + 2

McGeady crosses from the right and Donati first touches it into the left corner. Celtic wins 2-1!!!

Now they hold the cards heading to Milan. Yikes.

    Re: Feckin' Magic!

    Milan 1 - 0 Celtic
    Shakhtar 1 - 2 Benfica

I'm not sure whether I've ever been this excited about a loss!

It was a dire match throughout, with only the goal by Pippo providing a respite from the yawning exhibition that was on display. Not a lot of enthusiasm or grit out there, but that was to be expected, with both sides seemingly playing out the strings.

Scott Brown had some shocking moments today, and is now out of the first leg of the Round of 16. Obviously hurts us from the personnel standpoint, but maybe that will provide an opportunity for someone else to step up. Scotty and Aideninho had almost nothing to do, with the former being taken out for JVoH around the hour mark; I remember us having only two shots on goal, and they were both well-covered by their keeper.

Oh well, we lost but we're still through. And Shakhtar are now completely out of Europe now as well; serves them right, moaning twits.

Soon, we hope. Along with a good player or two who will not be cup tied.

Shocking display by Celtic, and it was so, so obvious the match was nearly a foregone conclusion. Kaka completely out-classes and out-paces Celtic's back line, and Caldwell is probably slower than Baird.

Too funny that that nearly 40 million pounds (or is it over 40 million pounds) spent by Shakhtar's owner has bought him to this point... not a damn thing.

After seeing the highlights of Liverpool - Marseille, I have to say the home team has the absolute worst kits of all time...Peach and light blue??? were they getting ready to play a game or getting ready for beddy-bye time?? the 1975 San Diego Padres thought those uniforms were heinous.

The Scousers come out in those sharp black kits w/the red stripe and the French team comes out in peach and light blue...the game was over before it started...2 words to Marseille management....MAN UP!!

On a serious note, how did L'Pool get whooped by Reading???

You just pointed to it... though I thought they had reconsidered how they were handling Prem v CL play.

Can you hear the Rangers sing?

    NOOO! NOOO!

Lyon rolls into Ibrox and humps Rangers right out of the building -- just as 'ra Gers had done a few months before. By the same 0-3 scoreline from the previous match, no less. That knocks them out of the Champions League, though they now have the "safety net" of UEFA Cup football.

Still hilarious, though. It definitely made my day.

It's after the draw, but does anyone have any thoughts on the ties?

Inter over Liverpool, in the best tie of the round, a good team loses to a great one.
AC Milan over Arsenal, a close second, youth and skill lose out to old age and treachery.
    Porto over Schalke
Undead over Olympiakos, and God I hope I am wrong.
    Real Madrid over Roma
    Barca over Celtic
Man United over Lyon, although Benzani and Juninho will be trouble for MU
Fenerbahce over Sevilla, the Brazilians on Fener get it done

Final will be Inter over Man U

Ar-se-nal; Ar-se-nal. AC are sucking out in the serie A this year. If the Gooners can put them out of the tournament, we might actually have a whole year without AC Mafia.

I like Inter, Porto, the Blue Turds, Real, Barca [who have nothing else to play for], ManUre, and Sevilla.

Your final looks good, although my dream final two years from now is Fulham v. Benfica! Hey, I can dream, can't I?

    'Mon the Bhoys!!!

Aideninho and Skippy will need some much needed help against Barca, though.

Arsenal over Milan?!? Don, Don, Don. Seldom do the sheep slaughter the butcher. Precisely because their Serie A season is in the toilet will they have a push in the CL.

Although Dida is the big variable for them, he's hope for me because I was a crap goalkeeper too and it hasn't stopped him from hitting the big time. Hell, maybe it isn't too late

And Fulham v. Benfica -- heck this time next year I'll take Fulham v Newcastle as opposed to Fulham v. Wednesday.

Time to rev the big Champions League machine back up.

I like tomorrow's matches better, but my predictions for today:

    1. Schalke 2 - 1 Porto
    2. Liverpool 2 - 2 Inter
    3. Roma 2 - 1 Real ("upset(?) special")
    4. Olympiacos 1 - 1 Chelsea

    For tomorrow:
    'Mon the Hoops!!!

Wow! Liverpool went from looking like they were in deep doo-doo heading to Milan, to looking like they have a chance. Trivia Item #1: Inter have scored at least two goals in every match at home in this competition (this season, I believe).
