First results...Scum 1-1 v Rosenborg (at the Bridge no less), can you just hear those elitist whining fans of Chelski crying about tying a team from Norway?...Priceless

Porto 1-1 v Liverpool a tie is a good thing in Portugal.

Yeah, but they didn't look as if they belonged on the same pitch. I've never seen a guy so irritating that he was almost begging to be sent off as Pennant was, and I know that Team of McBrides will get on my case, but this is yet another European match where there was an empty uniform out there with "Gerrard" on the back.

Love the Rosenborg score; just wish there were still Americans on their squad.

I didn't actually get to see the match Don, but I believe your assessment may be correct of Liverpool. Gerrard, for some apparent reason, has the capability to go missing for entire matches. (He can also grab a match by the scruff of its neck as well)

Watched the match at the Golden Lion and was smiling from ear to ear with the result. The Chelsea supporters were swearing left and right... it was brilliant. They were collectively quiet as church mice on the tube.

    Celtic... what happened?

Gerrard has been playing too much I think. They need to give that guy a break. John Terry as well.

Chelsea could serious struggle for a fourth place or higher finish in the EPL this year I think. Stamford Bridge is a mess.

Shakthar Donetsk are actually pretty good and very good at home historically in the Champions League. Celtic isn't that good though.

    Three words: Deplorable. Away. Form.

They haven't won an away match in the CL for a long time, and it sure didn't look like they were going to do it after 15 minutes of the Shakhtar match. Granted, Shakhtar spent something like 40m Euros rebuilding their squad and usually win these types of matches at home. Still, I wanted to see better out of the Hoops today.

But hey, CSKA London didn't win either. So the day wasn't half bad.

    Celtic were just awful.

    1) Underestimated Shakhtar. As seen by going two up front.

    2) Weren't ready immediately. As the two goals were in 8 minutes.

    3) History of bad away form. I hate that excuse, but I'll use it when convenient.

    Still, 'mon the Bhoys!

New darkhorse (well, at least to make the knockouts): Shakhtar. Electric quick on the attack and should've put the Bhoys away by more..as FFCinPCB stated, its been more than 15 years since Celtic won an away match in the CL. Not good.

I was able to watch the 2nd half of the Reds v. Porto match. Porto seemed much more the attacking club, but the Reds did have only 10 men. Despite a rather quiet match, Gerrard had a couple of fine touches towards the end. Assuredly, Liverpool played poorly, however, to some degree, Porto played brilliantly as well.

Blues draw Rosenborg at home? There is a God.

I like Rangers chances at home tomorrow. I see a 1-0 victory if Ferguson is fit... The Gooners will continue their fine run of form, but still only draw a strong Sevilla side 2-2. United win 2-1. Barca's woes continue and are held 1-1 at the Camp Nou. For all other matches...piss off.

The biggest upset was the Chelsea vs. Rosenborg match, I mean this small team from Norway is the equivalent to a 3rd division side. Amazing result for them and if you know any Chelsea fans who are smug little shits, ask them why only they could only fill half they're ground for their Champions League opener.

The 2-1 result for Rangers (virtually every Chelski fan's second team) pisses me right off, especially because the German champs were up a goal at one point. That just adds to the Celts' woes this week. Then again, we're now up a point on them in the SPL, so there's still room left for positives.

Hey! I like Rangers; Beasley plays for them (ok, that's my ONLY reason, but...)

typical Christiano Renaldo moment of magic to wake me up. I mean it. I decided that I had to sit like an ROTC cadet to keep myself from falling asleep during the "match." Only the breathtaking skills of one Portuguese winger and one Dutch goalkeeper [both with ManUre] provided any entertainment at all.

Screw the Champions League; on with the EPL

Hey, how come nobody pointed out that the Milan mafia got their butts handed to them?

Yeah, that Fenerbahce goal was class. Something is wrong at Inter though. They sucked last year too... and you're right about the CL in the fall, it's a bore. Sporting just gave up when they went down.

Bloody Lyon, how did they let Rangers (aka: the other Blue Poos) hump them 3-0 AT THEIR OWN GROUND?

Incredible. Though Celtic netting a win tomorrow would provide a good counter of its own.

Evidently, though; the Beas had an assist as well as the third goal. Shame nobody below the border thought he was good enough to outbid Ranger's 700k.

Either Beas, or Rangers, or maybe both, made a very shrewd move when they linked up this season. He continues to impress in Europe.

Note to Bradley: Beas' delivery on the corner to score the first goal was fantastic - pacey and in-swingin'. With that corner alone, he should be annointed the taker of all set-pieces for the USMNT.

    Happy For Beasley

Rangers are on fire in the CL. They'll have to keep it up to break through to the round of 16. Glad Beasley is back in the Rangers squad. Maybe they bought with the CL in mind.

It is possible that the Scottish League is providing just the right kind of attitude adjustment that Beasley needed. Seeing it firsthand, he needed one.

Bease won the penalty in Rangers' last SPL game, to give them the tie. He's not doing AS well in SPL, as the right back is usually 6'4" and 220 lbs, but in Champions League, against Right Backs who DON'T wear kilts in January, he's doing very, very well.

btw, I do find it amusing that there are so many Celtic fans on this board.

Amusing perhaps, but shouldn't be that surpising that we follow a club that provides as nearly as much frustration in Champions League as our blessed Whites do in the Premiership.
