That's where my ancestors come from... bite yer tongue..
    Oh, never mind.
    ;)

Brings to mind one of my few quick-thinking {I usually have to stew a while thus remember both of them} retorts:

Driving the motorway from London to York city, with a great guy, Neil Cameron

He saw some ruins off to the side.
"See that, Armstrong? That's real history.. something a yank like you would know nothing about."

" I'm sure you have a leg up, Neil... after all my people were leaving these shores about the time yours were arriving from Ireland."
    - - - -- - - - - -

And I thought it was "You can always tell a Yorkshireman, but you cant tell him much..."
    or

"... but he'll get it all wrong, anyway"

So... the English... who are really a hodgepodge genepool of the Roman melting pot forced the british, who are really the welsh, irish, and scottish into the highlands... and the english... who arent really british think that the true british (the celts, scotts, and welsh) speak funny...

    Ok... i'm getting this now.

NO WRONG, we're nothing to do with the Romans, the people they conquered were the Welsh. The English were living in Schleswig-Holstein at the time. The Romans were colonisers but not migrants(a bit like the 'Raj' in India) they just sent out a few civil servants to look after the Britons/Welsh.They withdrew in 410 AD when Rome was attacked. Then the Angles(they called themselves Englisc),Saxons,Jutes,Frisians moved in and Brittania became Engla-Land.
