    RE: poor poor L

The late night ribbing from Spencer. You cheeky B@$* ^*(P...Just kidding.

Now I must admit when I came into watching professional football I was a novice and had no guidance at all when picking a club. I simply chose Liverpool, because they weren't the most popular in the US at the time, they could still win meaningful matches at times, liked their style of play, had Stevie Gerrard, Rafa seemed to be doing something special, could actually watch LFC on the tube and they weren't Chelsea, Arse, Utd, Milan or Madrid.

Now as I have matured over the yeas I continue to support Liverpool, but my devotion to a club in England has come under some scrutiny. Is Liverpool really the club for me, do I feel that special connection and heaven forbid I am just another general supporter. With Liverpool it helps me get through the week just knowing I will be able to watch them play and hopefully come away with a result. I am gutted in defeat and jubilant in victory. Sing and chant as loud as I can and my friends all think I have gone mental.

I am waiting to get the first hand experience of match day and the whole feel of the club once I reach England. My two choices are either Liverpool or Fulham...really am waiting for that club I feel a close connection with and will enjoy the good times with the fantastic supporters.

Right now I would say it is 50/50 on who it will be. You guys are making a pressign argument for Fulham though.

Cheers and well timed jab spencer.

Well it appears your case has hope which is much more than can be said about most. The fact that you'd even consider supporting another club says to me that your unsure about your original choice, which I can understand with Anfield soon to be history and all. I think once you get over to London Fulham will rub off on you.

Even the worst of drunks are capable of sobering up. You to could be saved. Well whatever happens just let it happen, don't force or fight anything. Not so sure all the Fulham will be accepting of a Liverpool fan though, cross that bridge when you get to it I suppose. :D

If you go study in London it's going to be Fulham. F Liverpool!!! And if I lived in L-town I'd be an Everton fan. Much cooler.

I've never been one to go for the popular choice in teams. I choose to support those teams that essentially fly under the radar in terms of popularity. Which is why I have been a fan of the White Sox since 95', Bears since Dick Jauron was coach and the Bulls when the Pistons use to slap us around rituallistically.

I've found Fulham supporters to be very accepting and that is a great start, because when I first came around to Liverpool some of the fans had an elitest view. Just because I was a new fan it made my opinion on anything pertaining to football or Liverpool a mute point. Didn't much care for that.

I have just purchased my first Fulham shirt and I am expecting it to arrive soon. Can't wait to get it. So that is one Fulham shirt compared to ahhhh 9 Liverpool shirts...bit of a gap.

Believe me though there is hope for me being a full blown Fulham fan. I will see how it unfolds once I reach SW6 in London.

Lyle...I hope you have been drinking heavily or a large object has just hit your head, because if not then you have gone mental.

I will disregard your comments as a pure wind up. Now don't start to taint my opinion of all the fine Fulham supporters, because when you start to rag on Liverpool it brings out a whole other side of me.

Well, even one of the Founders of this great website used to support, or at least think he supported, one of the 'Big 6'. So there is hope.

You can still be saved and coverted!

They unfold the same, but I suggest unfolding it and trying it on once you receive it, instead of waiting until you get to London. The magic should happen almost immediately.

Haha, we will see if I am instantaniously converted to a complete Cottager. It is a nice shirt. I just bought it off eBay, because you can't seem to find a Fulham shirt anywhere else. I would post the picture, but I'm having a fairly difficult time doing so.

Who was a former fan of one of the big 6? Promise I won't give them a hard time.

The League Cup is certainly easier to win, but in most seasons, you only need to make it to the FA Cup final to guarantee a UEFA Cup spot. IIRC, if the League Cup winner has already qualified from table position, it's UEFA Cup spot goes to the next-highest team in the Premiership table. If the FA Cup winner has already qualified, the runner-up gets the UEFA Cup spot.

    What was "off topic"?

Anyway, a big 6 team like Liverpool who is focused on the Champions League or even the league can full around with lineups and tactics during the Cup matches. Supporters forget that losing can be very beneficial.

Very beneficial...to who? The club, the supporters, players or management? The players can learn a valuable lesson yes along with the gaffer, but it is far more valuable to stay in a cup. Ask Liverpool...being knocked out by Arsenal in the FA and League in one week was not beneficial in the least.

I wouldn't say Rafa fooled with his lineup, he was rotating players in order to keep them fresh and find is top XI. Which he never seemed to figure out.

There is a greater pecuniary value in staying in a Cup, but it uses up players. Most teams aren't deep enough to do well in a Cup and the league. Look at Sanchez's Wycombe team.

Liverpool is a team the can, but I think Benitez cared jack about the League and FA Cup. He was focused on the Champions League. He knew his team couldn't competet with Man U and Chelsea for the whole thing this year.

I wouldn't say that Benitez pretty much withdrew full effort from the league, but he knew it was a long shot and after such a poor start Liverpool focused their attention mainly on the FA and CL cups.

Rafa could give F*$% All about the League, but the FA was a terrible disappointment to be dropped from and so early. Not to mention it was the same club that dumped Liverpool out of both cups.

Depth is a key to reaching any cup final, but to simply concede or pack in the club's full effort in a competition that is your only chance at silverware is a mistake IMO.

This is like saying "we're all dead already, because everybody dies sometime". Fulham won't be relegated due to 'relegation inevitability', rather it will be due to inability to score.

Much has been made about Fulham's defense...and though there were a couple of nightmares last year, for the most part the team was in most games that they drew or lost.

The Fulham strike force is powerless, their midfield even less threatening. We all love Brian McBride, but he is not getting younger and really should be in a reserve role. It's hard to believe that the team cannot land even a 'prospect' that is threat to score. You cannot win games by hoping that the likes of Bocanegra, Volz or Brown can leg in a deflection.

I thought Fulham "overperformed" last year and unless 4 scoring threats are added to the squad, there is absolutely no hope of staying up. Currently, Fulham, Wigan and Derby are the odds on favorites to regress and it appears that the Egyptian must be a big fan of the baseball film "Major League", because he's running this franchise into the ground in a similar manner to the woman owner in that flick.

I would give Fayed a bit more credit than that. Wouldn't say he is the best owner I've ever seen, but there is no way he is purposefully setting up Fulham's downfall.

McBride is not a huge scoring threat but still a viable threat in any attack. He needs quality service and that has been lacking for some time. What made you decide that 4 scoring threats are the make or break condition of Fulham's relegation woes? Bit of an odd (or even number if you will) pick...
