Benny came in on the 56th minute against Arsenal. He looked very active, winning a few dangerous free kicks, and holding the ball well. Based on the perfomance, he has a good chance to start the next game.

Eddie Lewis was arguably their best player on the pitch...scary as that sounds.

Sorry... but from all reviews of that game playing on the Derby side, no matter how they perform, isnt going to be considered overmuch

For team USA's sake, a year of Benny playing good minutes on a bad Premiership side is better than shining pine in the Bundesliga.

Hey Guys, don't throw dirt on Benny's chances just yet. Don't forget who's playing left wing for us, and how a certain American CB disappointed a lot of Prem clubs by swearing his fealty to Aidy Boothroyd. Watford were last year's Derby County, and there are a half-dozen former Dirty Yellows making a living in the Prem.

Don I am very happy for Benny but the chances of Derby staying up beyond this year seem comparable to the Pirates making a run at the national league pennant. Like some of the former Pirate players who have had nice major league carrers I hope Benny makes a good impression this year and finds a better team to play for next year.

Does anyone know why Benny cannot find the pitch over there? I haven't watched too much of Derby this year -- life's too short to waste on their follies -- but I cannot imagine that they have someone so much better than him that he cannot get a game. Maybe his fortunes will improve under Paul Jewell.

he got 5-10 minutes here and there but, frankly, when I watched him play he looked not up-to-standard, and not just in terms of the EPL, but in terms of Derby's starting 11. Specifically, he seemed tentative and a little passive out there. It wouldn't surprise me if they loan him out to a lower league in January.

Why not loan him out to Herenveen to pair up with Michael Bradely?

Today, in a turn-up for the books, both Americans suited up and played for Derby as they almost took 3 points in Toon Town. Eddie Lewis set up an almost goal and Bennie came on for the last 20 minutes or so. It'll be interesting to see their lineup on Boxing Day.

In case you've forgotten, neither has played since the last international break. When Davies pulled Lewis off the USA squad to South Africa, we assumed that it was because he didn't want to take a chance on an injury to a guy who had become important to them. But then he didn't play once the break is over.

Anyhow, I guess there's no witness protection program for Feilhaber after all.

Benny played the entire 2nd half against Liverpool and was reasonably effective in midfield. It looks like he's getting some confidence back.

I thought Benny played well. He has a nice one and two touch game that never hurt. I would like to see him at FFC doing his thing.

Honestly, I'm happy with the guys we have and would be perfectly happy just to see Benny actually doing his thing (rather than warming the bench) for Derby. If he's not getting any playing time for the consensus worst team in the EPL, he's unlikely to get much anywhere else, unfortunately.

If Benny does play more the 2nd half of the season, he might be a decent summer transfer; Bradley may cost too much.

I hate to see such a nice young talent on the bench. Since it appeared that the last game FFC played was more possession rather than the long ball, then Benny's game fits in nicely with that style. Personally, I would much rather have him than Stephen Davis in the middle.

I think possession rather than long ball is much more Steven Davis' style as well, and that's part of why he hasn't always looked so hot for us. No offense to Benny, who (even if he decides tomorrow that soccer isn't his calling and he wants to go be a monk in Tibet) will always occupy a special place in my memory for his wonder goal against Mexico in last summer's Gold Cup, but at this point I don't think he has the credentials that Davis has.

I have seen way too many bad simple passes by Davis, so that is the main reason for my opinion. I know that this is not a comparison of Davis and Feilhaber, but I just think Benny is better. Davis may have solid credentials for an up and coming young player, but I am just not seeing the performance. I wish he was playing better. I am sure a lot of people on this site wish the same thing. I do not think he would have made a difference against Spurs.

I am sure I have a biased opinion of Feilhaber, but after watching him play for Derby against Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool (the rare games FSC carries of Derby) he showed me more ability than what I have seen in the number of games Davis was in the midfield for FFC.

I think he is getting a raw deal at Derby, and he should have been playing a lot more. Unfortunately, he is a central midfielder who has to play behind the captain, Matt Oakley. Maybe Jewell will see something in him for more time aside from the fact that Oakley is injured.

    Hey jmh,
I thought Davis played a much better game against Birmingham than the last few games. He had some nice touches on the ball. He must have been reading these posts (hahaha).
