    Beckham interviewed on 'Cold Pizza'

    By the Michigan Chick, of course;

    On why the MLS;
    "I had always planned to, the question was when"

    On if he would have come at half the money;
    "Now I wouldnt say that." -smile-

    What does he hope to accomplish;
    "Everyone knows that more kids play soccer in the US than all the other sports put together; but then then give it up or switch to other sports.
    I want to change that and be a part of making it bigger"

    On the paparazzi;
    "It was nice a few years ago to walk around in New York and LA with people gathering around but I have been in the spotlight a long time. I dont expect it to be different there, once more people know me."

    On the game;
    "I dont expect it to be easy. From everyone I have talked to the level of play and what people talk about as the level of play are two different things. I'll do my best"
    {heh... just wait till Martino consistently gets in the wrong position, for the attack}
    all paraphrased, of course... I aint no damn court reporter.

    SOCCER IS THE BEUTIFUL GAME, IF BECKS CAN SELL THOUSANDS OF TICKETS IN L.A. AND EVERY OTHER MLS CITY THAT HE VISITS MANY OF THOSE FANS WILL BE BACK FOR THE SOCCER . THAT IS WHAT THE MLS NEEDS , THE CASUAL AMERICAN SPORTS FAN TO TAKE NOTICE , THEY WILL LOVE THE GAME LIKE WE ALL DO IF THEY GIVE IT CHANCE. BECKS WILL BE THE START OF THE ATTENTION THAT SOCCER IN AMERICA DESERVES , NO IT IS NOT THE EPL, SERIE A , OR LIGA , BUT IT IS GOOD SOCCER AND IS BETTER EVERY YEAR .

    I'm glad Becks is joining the MLS. We need an ambassador for soccer and he has the star quotient to pull it off. If he can motivate the kids to stay with soccer, as he said is his goal, US soccer will be better for it.

    I always thought that Becks would end his career away from Europe -- either in the States, the Middle East, or even Japan where he is still unbelievably popular -- but never at the money that is about to be thrown his way. I said in another forum that the MLS is taking a huge gamble in not only signing Becks, but giving him such a big contract.

    To put the whole $250 million deal into perspective -- Beckham is due to earn £2,928.57 per hour for the duration of his contract. £2,928.57 comes out to just over $5,700 US... which is just a little bit more than the amount of money I was able to save up for college in a year and a half leading up to my freshman year. So, while the deal seems way too excessive, I can never fault Becks for agreeing to it. In fact, I wish I had the chance to command as much money as he just did, but that's another story.

    Soccernet examines the numbers behind the deal; the vast majority of that contract is in the image rights.

    He CAN make up to $250 million over 5 years; but it isn't guaranteed.

    Here's are some songs I made with my friend.

    Who the f**k is David Beckham?!
    Who the f**k is David Beckham?!
    Who the f**k is David Beckham?!
    And the Bulls roll on, on, on!

    I did a remake of "Who The F**k Are Man United?" The Bulls=NY Red Bulls

    Stick the two fifty up your arse
    Stick the two fifty up your arse
    Up your arse!
    Up your arse
    Stick the two fifty up your arse!

    Remake of "Stick the Blue Flag Up Your Arse".

    I think the US was the more ideal place to go. J-League is well established along with most of the Middle Eastern leagues. Plus he would have to learn Arabic or Japanese, and he really likes LA obviously.

    I have mixed feelings about this. I don't want him to become the tabloid pretty boy who will be on the front cover of People magazine, I want him to do well and be on the cover of Sports Illustrated. And I don't want people going to matches just to see Beckham. I don't want like family trips so people will be cheering for David Beckham even though their home team is playing the Galaxy. I want songs, cursing, drums and loud noises.

    I feel better about the deal now. Seeing that 250 is the max but only 1/5th is guaranteed. Besides its AEG's money to spend as they wish and if they feel this investment will pay off financially and perhaps through other benefits that’s their call. I thinks it hard to predict just how much play this will get in the media once he gets over here. It could be underwhelming or overwhelming, I can't say which.

    Other MLS News

    Super Liga was officially announced
    (Champions League Style tournament which has been talked about for quite some time) The teams were selected for the inaugural tourney but qualifying procedures will be set in stone for the future, thus providing an incentive to do well in the regular season. Tournament winner gets $1,000,000.

    Things are going swimmingly in Toronto. TFC has sold over 10,000 season tickets, half of the stadium!, according to the teams website. This obviously fantastic as the teams first game is four months away. Toronto is a great international city but I was afraid Euro Snobbery would be a huge problem there. I don't have an MLS team but plan on following TFC, whether I connect with the team and become passionate about them, only time will tell.
