    Republicans so supported the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that they nominated the chief Republican antagonist of the legislation as their presidential candidate. heh indeed.

    and you're right about the Southern and border state Democrats. And it was Nixon's Southern Strategy that convinced them that Johnson's civil rights legislation had run them out of the Democratic party and gave them the home in the Republican Party that they hold today. It was exactly that civil rights/voting rights legislation that Reagan was referring to when he said "I didn't leave the Democratic Party; the Democratic Party left me."

    Don't pretend you don't know that this is true.
