I was on an indoor field no more than 5 minutes before I suffered shin splints that did not go away for nearly a month. I like the pace, but that turf will eat your ankles, knees, and legs up.

Almost strictl;y outdoors for me. Luckily, I live somewhere where I can do that year round. (And I enjoy putting on the cold gear and getting out there when it is about 35-40 degrees.)

With Christian Franek as my inspiration, the Fulham Supporters Club Football Team beat Barnet 4-2 and I bagged my first hatrick for the team. It was a tough match, first 1-0, then 1-1, then 2-1 then 2-2 and finally we bagged two goals in the final five minutes to bring home 3 pts.

I hope we have a goal or two we can show you from the match but overall, as a team we did quite well. Especially since we only had 11 players. COYW's

    FANtastic!!

Ha-ha, well you'll have to be my inspiration today with that performance.
Jesus Jones, Mike, how long before FFC comes knocking?

Can't wait to see the video.

    That's great, Mike...
Like everything else in life, words is cheap and it's great when you back up the arguments with action.

    Eat yer heart out Clint!

    Red Bar United Update

Our first official match was pushed back a week because too many teams could not secure payment of league fees in a timely enough manner. However, we did have a final scrimmage against another squad in the same league. Despite a bust up between me and another player on the squad, my placement in the Radzinski slot proved beneficial, as I drove home a beautifully (if not intentionally) dummied cross in the box to give Red Bar United a deserved 3-2 lead shortly after the beginning of the 2nd half. However, Team Evil (my nickname for them, taken from Shaolin Soccer, see it) managed a brace before the final whistle, and we went down in defeat.

Being a scrimmage, the final score was not nearly as important as the experience of getting out there and playing with the regulars. And after a 3-1 win on Wednesday night's scrimmage, perhaps this focuses us back on the much needed goal of just getting better.

Finally, I must thank Mike for providing the inspiration and confidence needed to solidly strike my one goal. Although, in the team spirit of it all, I'll take a win over a goal any match.

    Cheers!

Congrats to Am.Mike and PCB on your play. Next season I hope to join a league as soon as I am back "match fit". Having a desk job and running up and down the pitch don't go well.

I have a desk job, which makes it essential to get my ass, literally, out and playing. 3 times a week or more would be optimal, but with a wife and child, I am happy that I get 2 times.

Thanks and Get in There, SC_Fulham!!!

I'm reminded of when I was doing a lot of theater. I was telling a work colleague that the demands of my job [60-65 hour weeks] was making my theater committments [10-20] hours a week difficult to keep up with. She grabbed my arm and said "the amount of time you spend at work is the reason why you HAVE to keep doing theater." She was right.

    Gotta find that time, SC!

Just wanted to say congrats PCB and just remember two things, consistency is key to getting better and your first touch will make or break the way you play. Keep it up.

As for my team, I group of guys we have on the Fulham Supporters Club team are great and some are definitely talented. Check it: http://www.fulhamsfc.co.uk/Home.html

First touch. Definitely something I am still working on.

But I did one time that bad boy into the back of the net yesterday. I may need to consider a little more time on the wing. I like making the runs on the line.

Forget the first touch. Lessons for a front man (from the Collins John book of striking)

If you are a front man, and you cannot be bothered to chase a ball, put your hands on your hips, look petulent and then glare at the person who tried to put you through, like they are a nasty mess on the bottom of your shoe.

Similar pose can be adopted any time your team conceeds a goal, especially if you are supposed to be back helping the defence.

If you fluff an easy chance look at the floor suspiciously, it must have been a bobble.

If your first touch fails in the box, go down like a sack of spuds and then browbeat the ref for not giving a penalty.

When you mis-control the ball outside the box, wave your arm in the direction of the ball, just like you meant to put the ball there and could not believe that no-one read your intentions. After all, it's not your fault that the rest of the team are not on your superior wavelength.

Finally - you are the best player that ever lived - you must be, you're a striker! Show everyone by strutting like the kaiser.

Of course, if you are any good at all you can be a model of professionalism and base yourself on McBride. With all this good coaching I am waiting to read glorious reports of Red Bar United, for which I can take the credit.

I think I'll have to try the above in indoor.

I saw Mike apply the same techniques in the Middlesex v. Surrey game. He may deny it, but there were several witnesses to his odious behavior.

Just kidding, Mike. We all know you're a McBride, especially after scoring a goal with your head.

BTW...I scored probably the most brillant goal in my very small, insignificant career last week. Stole the ball off a defender on the left, cut to the inside, shot with my left to the lower left hand corner through traffic. The first time I ever scored a goal with my leftfoot. I think I should retire now, while on the top of my game. It's all downhill from here on out.

    Awesome, DCH.

The fun part is it gets better each time you replay it in your head.

    Nice work with the left.

Blummy lummy - if it isn't bad enough to hear people talk and emelish goals - Mike is now in the position to pull out his phone and say "Watch This!!!".

Clearly this is not sour grapes, just because I have never scored a goal in a competitive match.

When is the YouTube Duece/McBride/Mike Fulham goal montage appearing?
