The lads are scheduled to report to Motspur one week from today. Will there be any more new faces showing up that aren't currently supposed to? Probably not, as the international signing window doesn't open until June 1oth. But the window for France, Italy, Germany and Spain opens July 1st.
Seems a bit tricky. How do you convince someone you really want to be patient and not get itchy to get a deal done elsewhere on the continent?

It would be tough to get a new signing over the line and training in a week. Unless, things take sudden turn and Neco rejoins us.

I really hope we give some of the academy guys a real chance to show what they can do, including Francois (cheating with this one), Stansfield, Pajiaziti, Odutayo, O'Neill.

Thanks, @BarryWhite . Very interesting. Is Fossey getting a chance to show he can hack it? Probably not, but for his sake I hope he impresses and stays healthy.

Not really relevant to us, but does anybody believe Kalvin Phillips is worth £42 million plus £2-3 mil in potential bonuses? Insane.

    Quick answer is No, but on second look;
    • It’s an English player (clubs have to have them) so they automatically worth a lot more.
    • Compared to Grealish and MacGuire (100 mill/80 mill respectively) it’s a steal for a player I’d prefer to have over the other two. Have a Citeh bandwagon friend who celebrated signing Grealish. I told him he was getting a top of the line Honda Accord w/all the bells and whistles, but you paid $100K for it.
    • Phillips was hurt for a large chunk of the season that not so shockingly coincided w/Leeds dropping like a rock.
    • Leeds paid $5 mill for an 18 year old midfielder from Cureh’s Academy, so w/add-ons the deal is a few million less then 42.

    I wouldn’t pay 42 for him, but that’s loose
    change for those guys.

I have to admit I no longer understand, maybe never have, how the financial fair play regulations work. City's 2020/21 revenues were 308.2 million euros. They're allowed to spend up to 70% of the revenues on player salaries, transfers, and agent fees. Their player payroll now is about 173 million euros. This means that they can spend up to 42 million euros on transfers and agent fees. The Phillips deal accounts for all of it. How are they getting Haaland? Are they assuming they can sell Sterling and sell him for enough?

That 42 million gets divided over the number of contact years so only a portion of the fee is recognized in the year the deal is signed.

I finally couldn't fight off some feelings of disappointment with Nick Pope going to Newcastle and Areola going to West Ham. However, I'd be surprised if there weren't a few additions over the next week that didn't lift my outlook a little.

I missed the fact that Ryan Fredericks signed with Bournemouth. That's fine. He's a very good Championship player, but his speed is somewhat negated in the big boy league. Still, you can't teach pace. I thought he should have developed into a more diverse offensive threat by now but, at 29, we'll have to see whether or not his salad days are behind him. Plenty of other right backs out there. And we've still got Tete and, potentially, Neco, so I'm not too worried about missing out on Fredo. Good luck to him (but not too much) at Bournemouth.

And…I forgot about the English player quota. So that makes sense…sort of.

Quick Premier League summer transfer window quiz (as of the morning of July 1):

What team has released/sold the most players so far?

What team has brought in the fewest players so far?

If you answered "Fulham" to both of those questions, you are correct! Fulham has released/sold seven players, more than any other team. Fulham has brought in zero players along with Brentford, Chelsea, Everton, Leicester City, and Manchester United.

Multiple outlets seem to think the Palhinha deal is imminent. I can get behind this deal. I’m not so jazzed about a possible Andreas Pereira deal though. He’s had his chance at ManU, in La Liga and in Serie A but has ended up in Brazil (where apparently he wants to stay). This does not give me good vibes.

I dont read this as Tony's fault, at all. Reflecting on the piece I think Silva is in need of a reality check. Would it be awesome if we'd sign 3-4 players by now? Of course! But we're a yo-yo club, and transfers are stupidly messy business to begin with.

Of the deals we're attempting, one got hung up with agents, another with some FIFA red tape, another the player's club rejected two offers, while another club accepted an offer but the player is reviewing it. Aiming high for Juve, Milan, and United players always going to be a last minute snatch for a club like ours. None of this should be surprising!

I suppose I differ in my perspective, perhaps due to my cynical nature :). To me it sounds like the Khans are hoping to get Manor Solomon on a free, i.e. hoping for the cancellation of the Ukrainian league contracts. That's not going to happen, and the Ukrainian league is planning to restart in August (either in Ukraine or the neighboring countries). Other teams are willing to pay for players from the Ukrainian league now. Marcos Antonio signed from Shakhtar for Lazio on July 1 for more than $8 million, David Neres for Benfica for $16 million, and Fernando for Salzburg for $6 million. Same outgoing club. What's stopping Fulham?

As for the other rumored players, I see no reason why we shouldn't have had a couple signings by now. Forest have gotten three solid players through the door already, and they're dealing with exactly the same market and the same agents. Silva has somewhere between 12 - 15 senior outfield players in training right now -- I'd be concerned if I were him, too.

I might not have a religion, but I my dislike of Tony Khan comes close. You'd have to pry it out of my cold, dead fingers. :) I would feel differently if he appointed a professional director of football, instead of playing at one himself (he's also Vice-Chairman, General Manager, and Sporting Director). Each of the latter two jobs should also be a job filled by a football (the round kind) professional. As owners, the Khans are just fine. They should just stay away from the football decisions.
