Not too upset. ManU v. CELTIC is a great match, as far as the energy.

Group H looks the Group of Death, at least for Bate.

Group D is a beast. Too bad for Liverpool -- couldn't happen to a nicer bunch.

I was crushed at how close Liege came to knocking them out of the competition entirely.

Might see Altidore in some of those Villarreal games. A goal against ManU would look nice on his CV.

The only way that's going to happen is if their last match occurs when both teams have already guaranteed passage to the next round. Jozy's best chance of getting any 1st team time with Villareal will be in a domestic cup competition.

If you like consistency among your crew of officials, you had to love the Atletico Madrid v. Liverpool match. Not only did the referee respond to two fouls by carding the player that was fouled [one for each team, by the way], NEITHER of the linesmen could perform THEIR ONLY job. Several attacks by both sides were stopped by incorrect off-sides calls.

Is this the best UEFA can do?

As I'm typing this, AM just equalized. Hmmmm.

Well, I waited for somebody else to bring this up, but certainly The Hoops have hit a low point. It's hard to compete in a competition when you can't get a point on the road.

Celtic begin each season pretty much guaranteed of qualifying for Europe before the season ends. They have one real rival for honors in their domestic league, and I think even Lawrie Sanchez could get them to 2nd place in the SPL. The ONLY thing an Old Firm boss can do to prove he's a better gaffer than the average guy down at the boozer is to make some headway in Europe. Jock Stein did it for Celtic. The wee ginger lad currently in charge? Not so much.

I'm thinking that Celtic's board is already looking for a new manager. My guess is that he'll be arriving from Spain, Italy, Portugal, or France.

I'll help Don find his way around this newfangled thing they call a website. Perhaps he lost his spectacles.

    --------------------------

Chelski will have their hands full. Good. The Old Lady is back, and she swings a pretty mean handbag. Juve knocks the snot out of the blue-poo and sends that Club into chaos. Roman doesn't believe in bailouts though.

Villareal got a pretty good draw. I'll be pulling for them against the Greek Celtic, and I hope we get to see Josmer.

Bayern should dispatch Sporting, at least on paper. Of course, we know how that works some times.

Atletico v. Porto, snooooozzzzzzz. Wake me to see who either lose to in the next round.

Lyon could push Barcelona, but I think Barca just has too many weapons.

Real v. 'Pool will be an ESPN2 match almost certainly, or at least ESPN Classic. If Keane finds his form, the Reds should handle a not very Real squad this season.

Arsenal gets a good draw with Roma. Big win at home, less big win away.

Internazionale v. ManU. Well, well, well. The chosen one comes back to face one of his biggest nemesis. THIS should be the best match-up hands down. Not a big fan of Jose, but I like Inter, especially Ibrahimovic. Vidic and Rio can possibly contain and frustrate him though. If Inter gets past ManU, their confidence would be nearly unstoppable. Unfortunately, I don't see it happening. Ferguson probably had a little smile when he got this draw. Jose, not so much.

Nice summary Christian. The only matchup I might quibble with is Liverpool/Real. There is a part of me that thinks Liverpool is doing it with smoke and mirrors this season and unless Torres gets healthy Real may just break their mirror.

So where in hell DID I post that? I really shouldn't do that before my morning coffee.

Christian: do you really think Keane-O will be featuring for 'pool in the new year? Also, I don't see attackers from any side in Europe that Rio and Vidic can't contain. If Inter beats them, it'll be from shutting down their attack. If Rooney, Tevez, Giggs, Ronaldo, etc. etc. etc. are in the mood, however, the Special One will have to concentrated on Serie A.

An honest and easy oversight, you originally posted on the UEFA Cup thread.

I think Keane could help significantly if he finds his form, which it seems his tendency is to do in the latter half of the season (see: last season for Tottenham). Torres is of course a HUGE consideration as well, but I am assuming everyone already knows that. Keane is having trouble finding his form, but if he does, I'd say probably lights out for Real (who look more than normally confused this season).

I think Liverpool go in as the favorites but after watching Real handcuff Barca for nearly 85 minutes last weekend I could see Real handcuffing Liverpools attack which has not been stellar this season.

With the injuries up top for the Yellow Submarine right now, there is a good chance Altidore will make the roster.

Giddy with excitement. This is almost like Christmas Day with this AND Fulham playing!!

My amazingly accurate predictions for today:

    Atletico 3 - 1 Porto
    Lyon 1 - 1 Barcelona
    Arsenal 2 - 1 Roma
    Inter 1 - 0 ManU

    Call your bookies now!

I'm actually quite excited for this round of the ECL - lots of great matchups. I'm thinking that the EPL clubs are going to struggle quite a bit - from what I've seen of the top Italian/Spanish sides, they are looking good.

    Today:
    Inter 2-0 Man U
    Arsenal 0-0 Roma
    Lyon 0-1 Barca
    Atletico 2-0 Porto

And Liverpool is in big trouble tomorrow, IMO

Three words for today: "Let's Go Juve!!!"

Also, I do not dislike Liverpool, but I hope Real puts a fork in Rafa's reign. He seems to be clearly undermining the ownership and thumbing his nose. Plus, he was about as unprofesional as I could imagine a manager being to Keane.

In other matches, Up the Bayern, and while I hope Altidore's mother club succeeds, I think there may be some Greek lovin' waiting for them.
