Dare to dream, dare to dream

I hold an odd fascination w/ Galatasaray because Brad Friedel played there and there fans are so crazy -- that tie against Steaua Bucharest will be a good one.

Good man, Don, getting this started early.

I think Onyewu has a much better chance of doing well than his Belgian club.

I'll be cheering for Kaunas, then Allborg or Modrica.

Barcelona will really have to earn it, if they win it all this season.

    Go Sparta Praha!!!

Although i would love to see an American do well in the CL, my support is behind Liverpool. I've always considered them to be my "second" team in the EPL. I'll always have a soft spot for the underdogs, and that they are in terms of the Big 4.

Naah -- they have enough titles and Euro Cups to where they overplay that card for my tastes.

Of course, the Evil Empire was the team that first brought me to footy again, so who am I to criticize.

I understand that, but it is nice to root for someone who can actually come out on top. Compared to Fulham, Liverpool are like a nice glass of water and advil after an all night binger. Being a Fulham support is definitely not for the weak hearted!

The "Other Blue-Poo" go down in flames to Kaunus of Lithuania, 2-1.

Their defensive strategies are no longer effective, if they ever were. Kaunus appeared to take a page out of last season's UEFA Cup winner's game plan. They never let up the pressure.

    I shan't shed any tears.

Whoa, I thought you were making a prediction until I checked the scoreboard.

They were going to end up in the UEFA Cup anyway, this just gives them more time to get acclamated...

    Edit:
My bad for the above post...they don't even qualify for the UEFA at this stage.

I thought it was only those who finished 3rd in the group stages that made it to the UEFA Cup. I think Rangers are through in Europe.

Sounds like they could have used Steve Davis. If so, it's a shame they wouldn't pay for him. Roy is proving to be a tough negotiator.

Liverpool = underdogs? Are you kidding?
Tom Hicks (also owns the dysfunctional Texas Rangers) is reason enough to root against them.
I hated to see Keane go there - but if he's a childhood fan, can't blame him. If they also buy Barry, they'll be very strong this year.

Not sad to see 'Gers go down. Playing 10 behind the ball = boring....

p.s. - Rooney catching a 'virus' in Nigeria?? hmmm.........

Haha...in the time it took you to post above I learned of my error and tried to remedy it before anyone noticed!

They get what they deserve - that 4 million for Davis looks pretty good right now considering ALL of the cash they will miss out on this year.

I saw Davis play with them twice last season, and he was a significant creater in their midfield. Based on what I saw in the press, he was a big reason why they made it to the UEFA Cup Final.

They've got more money than we do. Let 'em drown in their own gravitas, I say!

Rangers loses to a Lithuanian team 2-1.
Hull City loses to a Lithuanian team 1-0.

Who is better, Rangers or Hull?

Missing out on the rest of the European campaign has really put a dent in Rangers' plans this season, but I didn't think it would quite lead to this...

    Carlos Cuellar to Aston Villa

For those unfamiliar with Scottish football, Cuellar was far and away the best defender in the SPL last season and was one of the cornerstones of Da Peepul's run to the UEFA Cup Final. Now that he's gone, their defensive bunch is even worse than Celtic's.

There's good, there's bad, there's ugly, there's downright brutal... then there's Rangers Football Club.
