I love the Astros move as the Mariners won't be last every year. As a fan of the Mariners and AL baseball, I hate it when we play in NL parks as the pitchers suck at hitting and it takes away from the momentum a team builds. I like offense and home runs and I can't even really watch NL baseball. This is a preference thing though, but I like the way the AL is.

 

1, they stole Mo's line. And 2, maybe they'd be a good a new favorite NL team for Don...except they aren't women.

In MLB, every city or state with 2 teams has them split evenly between NL & AL except PA. I like that b/c most people do have a preference between the 2 leagues and that gives you the ability to root for your local/state team either way. Or if you like both leagues, you get a rooting interest in each league if you so desire. I know that doesn't fly with the teams that split cities (NY/Chi/LA) so much, but the option is there.

Another gripe from a Houston perspective is that they'll now play all but one divisional game 2 time zones away. I realize the Rangers were already doing this. I also realize Houston had to play half of their games that way in the old NL configuration before the extra divisions were created, but I still don't like it.

Of course, I don't like the Central Divisions anyway. Or wildcards. Or this asinine 1 game playoff addition. So baseball is well on it's way to becoming largely irrelevant to me as a fan anyway. The only thing that keeps it from becoming completely irrelevant to me is that I went to my first O's game when I was 4, back in the day when baseball was still the national past-time, and that's hard to completely let go of. Although Peter Angelos has done his level best to tempt me these last 15 or so years.

 

Don; agree w/a lot of what you said. Especially concerning the moronic scheduling. However, one item that I'll take issue with is your assessment of the Angels owner. Arte Moreno is universally beloved by Angels fans, and held in the same esteem as the late great Gene Autry. Won't go into it too much about him personally (that would be an essay), but trust me that you would genuinely like him. He's all about the fans, has increased revenue streams, and put back the money into the team on the field. Tell HatterMom her favorite team is in good hands.

 

There was a lot of Mariners fans that wanted him out. He has been really bad the last couple of seasons. It was time to move on.

I think it's time to move on from Felix as well. We aren't going to compete this year and we could solve a few of our problems by trading him.

 

He'll always be a Mariner to me. And Clemens will always be a Red Sock. And Albert will always be a Cardinal. And I hope Jeter knows it's time when the time comes so he'll always be a Yankee. And Pete will always be a Red.

 

King Felix threw a perfect game today. It was one of the most tense moments I have ever experienced. I was so nervous going into the ninth, but in hindsight I shouldn't have been since he was so dominant today. I don't think there was any doubt he was going to do this after about the sixth inning. He is an amazing pitcher and deserves to pitch in the postseason.

 

Funny you said that Justin. I got a text from a friend of mine who was there about 4:05 (cst) saying King Felix was perfect through 6. I was giving him crap for jinxing it and he said, "no way, he's as dominant as I've ever seen a pitcher today." Several text updates and an hour or so later, the M's had their first perfecto.

I used to have Safeco "record" bragging rights b/c I was there (and stayed til the end) of the longest game in M's history. Witnessing a perfect game trumps that, easily.

Yeah, what Heather said. I think John Henry needs to get rid of Larry Luchino. It is time for him to say to say, "Larry you have made me a ton of money but we need to move on." IMO he is to blame for the whole Terry Francona fiasco, I think he was behind it. I have also heard rumors that Larry could be next in line for the commisioners job after Selig retires. Hopefully sooner rather then later to get him out of Boston.

 

The Sox look like they're going back to their 89 yr drought roots. I don't think it was a bad move if they reinvest that money well, plus they did a good job fleecing LA of prospects. LA should have been stingier given all of the bad contracts they absorbed. That said, Beckett could very well benefit and bounce back with the move out of Boston, into a different league, and into a pitcher's park. Gonzalez will be good for LA, Crawford is likely done.

Heather, I wouldn't have much confidence, but how they handle this (and what they do with Valentine) will give you a good indicator of the direction of the Sox for the next decade.

Meanwhile, the O's are still hanging around. Don't know how (aside from their record in 1 run games) but it's fun to see them relevant again after so long.
