Has been memorialized by a statue in Paris, France, as an "ode to defeat". Hmmm Or an ode to poor sportsmanship on both sides. I wonder if Nike paid the artist or paid Materazzi additional money for its logo's presense in this memorial?

This is quite a strange subject for a statue, no?

:animals-chickencatch: Just put that icon there because it makes as much sense as having a statue of that incident.

Seriously, almost fell off my chair when I saw that, and it caused me to think of possible American sports events that should be turned into a statue

In Detroit; Statue of Ron Artest jumping into the crowd to fight Piston fans.

In front of the clubhouse at Augusta National; A statue of Tiger Woods crashing into the fire hydrant.

In Green Bay; The inept refs signaling TD as the Packer interception is clear :angry-banghead:

Oh, SCJ, this is a rich topic with nearly endless possibilities:
    - Baltimore: Jeffrey Maier "catching" Jeter's HR in the '96 playoffs
    - San Francisco (or any big league city): A statue of Barry Bonds (or the MLB logo) littered with needles and cream containers
    - Kansas City: George Brett's pine tar fiasco
    - Chicago: Steve Bartman incident
    - Edu goal waved off by Koman Coulibaly in WC '10
    - New York: Plaxico Burress shooting himself in nightclub

    ...

He came close to shooting himself in a different club.

Wow, that's a terrible statue. I don't get the "why" of it.

Thanks for bringing up Jeffrey Maier, Nev. :angry-cussingblack:

I can see the Steve Bartman statue right outside Wrigley...ball cap and headphones with outstretched arms.

How about Pedro Martinez throwing Don Zimmerman to the ground?

Martinez v. Zimmer = classic. In that very pose. Nice job, DCH.

I would add the statue of Robin Ventura getting noogied by Nolan Ryan.

Sad - the article (cnn, maybe) I read first about the Zidane statue took the opportunity to remind the world that we had a Michael Jackson statue outside the Cottage. Damn, just when I was beginning to forget......
