How does the loaning of a player work?

For instance, Eddie Johnson is on loan to Cardiff. Does Cardiff pay Fulham for his services? Is the benefit purely financial for Fulham or do they think he will get more playing time in the Championship and therefore more experience ? Kind of like the minor leagues (farm teams) in US sports?

With AJ, Neveland, Zamora and Kamara I don't think will ever see Eddie Johnson in a Fulham kit again.

It depends on the terms of the loan agreement, but the team receiving the player generally contributes to his wages - and the size of the contribution can vary between everything and nothing. The benefits for Fulham are exactly what you mentioned - financial, and to help the player gain experience.

Way he's playing, I don't think we'll ever see him in a Cardiff kit again, either.
