He had at least one more year left in him he if wanted to stay. I'd be intrested to hear what the factors of the decision were in his mind. Guy can't be replaced.

Myself and every UK Fulham fan I've ever spoken to about McBride all say the same things. His effort, commitment and professionalism are beyond doubt. He is well loved and respected.

Many of us view him as a traditional English striker - the kind that we have not produced for years. Alan Shearer is about the nearest equivalent in the modern game.

Fulham fans have always appreciated effort above all else - you can be forgiven almost anything if you are willing to to flog yourself for the cause. McBride always did. I cannot ever remember a time when his head went down or he went missing - and he played in some poor Fulham sides that did not suit his game but he always made the right runs.

I'm not sure he will sit on the top table with people like Haynes, George Cohen and Gordon Davies but he will certainly be remebered as the shining light of these Premiership years - along wiht EVDS, Boa, Steed and Saha - fairly good company.

I wish him all the best and hope that his family enjoyed their visit to London, 'cos we enjoyed having them.

<---- Royally bummed but thankful right now.

And thankful for the photo montage for the offal.

I liked the McB-Drogba comparison from earlier in the thread -- completely accurate. If you gave McB Drogba's talent and put him in the situation where Drogba got into a slapfest with Tevez over his pink razor, McB would have had too much class and awareness to get into that situation.

If he comes back to Columbus, he could almost make me a Crew fan.

On second thought, naaaaaaaaaah. I'd root for him, but not the team.

wow! What a compilation; what a perfect song. I shouted out loud two or three times at these goals. I remember so many of them so well. Fantastic. We are all blessed to have been part of this, even in our small way.

    Wow

Wow is right. What a compilation. If you just caught on this year like myself, it is clear a lot was missed. I also really like GaryBarnettFanClub's post. That was very thoughtful and interesting to hear the English perspective. Thanks.

Thanks, Mo. You watch all these goals and you realize that he's as good with either foot as he is in the air. For those of you very new -- the last 10 years -- to the English game, Brian is a classic English centre-forward. There's damn few of them about now, and England has lost its best example.

Maybe it's just me, but my favorite McBride goals are those he scored against sides wearing blue. Hmmm.

Your attention is gently invited to a wonderful article on craven cottage newsround entitled "respect." You really can't beat wmc for combining "sports" and "writing." You can't link on specific artiles on CCN, or at least I don't know how to, but check out http://cravencottagenewsround.wordpress.com/ and read "Respect."
