Voting for the All Star Game ends at midnight tonight. And I'm really intrigued to see who's on it.

Toronto FC has a CONCACAF CL qualifier that day. DC United has one the day before, and NYRB the day after.

Also, the Gold Cup ends on July 26, three days before the game. And unless the USA soils the bed, they should be in the final.

So there's a good chance 3 teams (which is 20-percent of the league) won't be represented in this competition, and those coming off the Gold Cup may forgo it for a week off.

Perhaps there will be room for Beckham after all?

Its not really about ballot stuffing.

If 3 teams aren't represented because of scheduling conflicts -- and probably won't be in years to come with the current scheduling -- what the hell is it?

It's a freakin celebration and showcase.. same as always. There's gonna be grousing about how worthless it is, no matter what the format, but the current one... a fan popularity contest against a world club which is tuning up and selecting for their coming season is as good as it gets.

Not good enuff? What the hell is Fulham doing in OZ, then? Why did they go to China?

And speaking of Fulham... let's not forget how the current format began. Even if by luck.
Umm.. surely you dont count Chivas Sr as a 'World Club', that was obviously a sop to reward their intentions in MLS.

Takes many planks to build a dock.
