If you told me on the final day of last season that the only center-half we signed would be a youngster from Leyton Orient I'd have gone ballistic. Though that’s not quite how I feel now, I'm very disappointed. I understand that Routledge is a good player but having seen what so many clubs have done today I don't think its enough.

Is this GK thing for real? With our limited funds it is inexcusable to spend one dime on another keeper. CC better be damn sure that he's the next fecking Peter Chech, thats the only excuse for this crap.

I saw that Cygan left Arsenal for only 2m. We could have afforded that.

According to Sky Sports, Jan Lastuvka is in on a one-year loan, Warner's Leeds loan is extended until January, and Drobny is "terminated". Jaro, we hardly knew ye.

No thank you. We might have been able to afford to pay 2 million, but we can't afford to waste 2 million.

that is how i feel about what has happened....can i get some fan info on Routledge besides whats on BBC and Sky...just wanna hear what everyone says about him and the lad from Boro....and i agree better be made from the same Cech mold......the cottage has become a revolving door for keepers....glad Antti is staying put!

    COME ON FULHAM
    COME ON UNC
    COME ON UCF
    and next week
COME ON CRICKETERS ARMS (kickoff of my season)
COME ON WEBBER (my alma mater plays our hated rivals 'Warner Southern', that are 2 miles down the road in the first night soccer match...red cards galore!!!)

Pains me, but I'm afraid this may be true.

    ouch!

Guess I haven't really watched Cygan much but yeah there’s prolly a reason he went for only 2m. Outside the bigger name central backs I don't really have a handle on which ones are over and under rated. I think to truly know you have to watch CB’s several weeks in a row. I find this true because so often you don't notice CB's in a game until they make one really good or really bad play and then that one play shapes your whole opinion of the player.

I can't believe Cygan went for that much. I thought he was a donkey, clearly outclassed in the Gunners' back four.

    Cygan at 2m?? No thanks.

It seems there were a few CB's we were looking at with Huth being the most likely option (even with this connection with Boro) but due to Gallas' move Huth became a non-option.

I am dissapointed about not getting a CB, but I will pray that our options work out for us. With Liam/Volz on the right and the 3 U's on the left, I'm feeling much better about our defense than last year!

Our midfield has improved this year already with Steed out and Routledge in. Routledge can definitely do the job on the right and he's hungry to get a first team spot and prove he can hack it at the prem.

Our striker options are the same but they proved they could do it last year and lets hope they can do the job again. The addition of Routledge makes McBride and Helguson better.

    Now COYW's.

Just reading Cookie and Routledge's comments from FulhamFC.com, and I am liking the kid already. Plus he's 21, fast, and has represented England at just about every age level. What's not to like?

Between him and Bullard it seems like we have a couple of guys who the fans should really take to the rest of the year.

There was a rumor on Big Soccer that on Standard Liège web site claims that Standard Late thursday evening turned down a 4 million euro bid from Fulham.

There was a rumor that Real Madrid put a bid in for him as well.

I doubt he would go to Real, he's stated he wants first team action. I think the safe bet is he will go in the Jan. transfer to a mid-table Premiership team in need of a central defender.

Real Madrid? I would highly doubt that but hey, anything can happen.

Now on to us putting in a bid, why didn't the media report it considering they reported absolutely everything else!

Yeah. Most rumors are complete BS (especially on BigSoccer), but it was funny to see the quote about using Gooch in some pre-season friendlies just to sell jerseys in the States. It got me thinking if Real bids 5 million for Gooch, how much money in jersey sales could they make off of him? I doubt they would come close to recovering their money--but who knows? I never get to see sales figures from football clubs.

And Coleman's 'We're happy with the business we've carried out this transfer window. We missed out on another player who we were quite confident of signing, but we couldn't get him." quote sure makes it seem like that's probably true.

That sucks for Gooch and Fulham, I thought Gooch was a lock to play in the Premier League or another big league before the World Cup. A below average world cup and Standard's high price tag may have scared alot of teams off.

In Chris Coleman's comments on the transfers this summer, he said "“We missed out on another player who we were quite confident of signing, but we couldn’t get him. " Do you think that was Gooch? Or someone else? Any guesses?

Might have been Gooch... or not.

But, if the tabloid news that Liege turned down 4 mill for him is true, then he's no longer an option for Fulham... even in January.

We could afford that remember it's in Euros not Pounds. Up the price a little and they will accept.

I don't think the comments were aimed at gooch, as much as I want them to be. I'm guessing it was Maccaroni.
