Yes. Is he the one that didn't dive to the ground and hold his face in a failed attempt to get a penalty. I think there was one that didn't anyway.

Because he's not good enough? He'd get 10-12 games max fopr us next year. It'd better be a cheap buy.

Paul Scharner closer to being a Cottager.

I give this one a tentative thumbs up -- he always seemed to play well on Wigan's back line -- any thoughts?

But as a midfielder? I'd rather not Roy not make this deal. As a defender, maybe, but in my opinion, I think there are better ways we can spend our money.

That fee might be complete crap, but thats way too much for a player of his age, especially one who would only be a backup. Nothing against Scharner, I just don't think he's better than Murphy or Etuhu.

That strikes me as too much for him, as others have said.

There's an article that says the price tag is actually 4m, but this is still all speculation.

Lets just say its 5million quid -- an expected price for a prem tested player.

And some perspective: If it is 5 million pounds, thats roughly 147 trillion vietnamese dong.

    Amen.

It's settled, until Vidic heads to Barca and Sir Alex comes sniffing 'round.

Maybe it can also be the end of the "Arsenal never spend any money on players" crap too.

The Vermaelen buy is a typical Wenger buy. Arshavin broke the mold though.

Someone who is believed to be Ray Lewington posted some interesting bits on TIFF yesterday:

    * Roy likes Scharner a lot
    * Scharner and Kelly were targeted because we're going to lose players at those positions during the African Nations Cup
    * We're not in for Kolo Toure, Kieran Richardson, or Kenwyne Jones
    * Arsenal won't pay our £15m asking price for Hangeland
    * Hoping to have Hangeland signed to a new contract next week

Anyone know anything more about possible interest in Onyewu? Been quiet on Sky about it ever since they posted it. He was a beast in the Egypt game. That was about the one thing that Harks got right all day.

I really don't think he's even on Roy's radar. When a club gets linked to the same player during 3 different seasons under 3 different managers, you're looking at some seriously lazy journalism.
