Da Tara is the winner: 38: 1 longshot. Some people made some big money today.

... and Rick Dutrow and the rest of the crew go off very, very quietly.

Very few of the signs looked too good for Big Brown leading up to the race (at least for me), but I didn't think he would be brought back down to earth in such a manner. Just goes to show how hard it is to win a Triple Crown.

Of course, the talk will inevitably focus back on Winstrol and other steroids at some point.

I think he was devastated by NYRA's rejection of Hooters as his sponsor!

Funniest thought, saw a headline: "Big Brown Bagged by Da'Tara".. not to mention the rest of the field.

The top cash maker being the track itself. On the pre-race they mentioned 5.3 mill on bets for Big Brown to win alone (not including all those crazy combo bets). I'm sure they didn't mind paying out a few bucks to the people who like long-shots.

the only time a track or the bookies come close to losing money is when the prohibitive favorite wins. Everybody made a buttload of dough yesterday, but none of them were the bettors -- except for that miniscule # who bet the long shot, and most of whom probably made only about 300 bucks or so.
