    The editor of the opinion section of the SF Chronicle said that it was a shame that Letterman and Leno didn't just "wing it" on their shows, since the "material never goes on strike."

    Even a professional writer has no idea how important writers are! Fair do's to Jon Stewart who, on his last "live show" pointed out to viewers that the strike was about the fact that writers got no remuneration for downloads or webcasts. Then he smiled and pointed out that viewers could go on line and watch all the old episodes for free -- since they were subsidized by advertising.

    That's what I always thought... esp about Letterman. He doesnt need freakin writers, he goes off on tangents so much I cant see the point.

    So... just dont do the monlogue!

    I guess it's a case of just 'holding position' so that they dont make a goof by long periods of winging it.
