Now that everyone has had their say on the squad (windblown hair and pinned back ears returning to normal) it's time to talk about the game. The actual game. Not practice. The game.
There are no names on the opposition squad you'd recognize. Two play club football in Finland. One plays in Europe, for English side Maidenhead United, a semi-pro team in something called Conference South. Two more play for Sounders FC 2 USL side. Most of the rest play for clubs in and around the Caribbean. So this SHOULD be a mismatch of epic proportions. So the question is, WWJD?
I expect to see Tim Howard back in goal. I have no idea who to expect on the rest of the pitch. Michael Bradley and Jermaine Jones are probably the only cinches at this point. And where they'll be deployed is anyone's guess. We should win, the question will be how we play. If we see inspired, high energy play, I'll be happy. If we see more of the same crap we've seen recently, I'll be unhappy. I'm also expecting our man Ream to get some minutes, if not start, in his hometown. Really wish I could go, but gotta work. They took the foul poles out at Busch to improve sighting for the patrons, so I'm hoping the home crowd in St. Louis brings the noise. I think they will not disappoint.

I just want the team to win. They should win and win big. Whether that happens is another matter.

Looking forward to it; thankfully it's early enough to watch before other TV "must sees" and even more thankfully, I don't have a gig tonight!!!!!!

    Did I just say that?

Really looking forward to seeing Nagbe, even if its just a glimpse (for the love of Gawd please don't get hurt!!). We are in desperate need of somebody that can be an accurate passer and give us a spark. JK deserves all the heat he's getting, but it's not his fault when someone as good as Bradley misses wide open guys by 5 yards consistently, and it's not just him, the whole team's passing has been pathetic since game 1 of the Gold Cup.

Forget the final scoreline (unless it's surprisingly close), it's the team's energy and body language that is worth observing.

A mixed bag to be sure. Jozy looked hungry but still clumsy. Wood looks the opportunistic striker. The assists were more beautiful than the goals for the most part. Debuts for Miazga and Nagbe, and an anonymous appearance by Guzan, and the three points I could have gotten as coach.

The downside? Injuries to Jones and Yedlin, and the usual stupidity from Twellman and Darke. This time, both commenting on how Ream is a right-footed CB playing a position he's not familiar with at club level.

    Sigh.

Want proof concussions in soccer are a legitimate issue & cause long term damage? I give you Taylor Twellman as exhibit A.

Didn't get to see the whole match, watched the goals when I got home from hs football duty. To call the opponents minnows is an understatement. They're barely plankton. And we conceded the opening goal to them! I'm about ready to give up on Jozy. He seemed more effective as a hold up midfielder than a primary striker. His form is VERY sporadic. When he's on, which is mostly when he's playing for our country, he's on. But when he's off, he's really off, which is most of the time, seems like. As far as the injuries, I'm more concerned about Yedlin than Jermaine. One salient point Twellman DID make was about Jones. He's 34. out of contract and getting hurt more and more often. He does not figure to be around for another World Cup cyle. DeAndre does, if he improves enough in the interim. We'll get more answers Tuesday. The Vincentians didn't ask enough questions.
