Woulda, shoulda, couldas don't matter anymore. All the US needs to do is put in another decent performance and they'll be through. Would have been nice to put in a scrub team against Germany though.

no days off at the World Cup.

The plans are for Ag and I to split a pizza and a six-pack Thursday afternoon. I'll check in to the chatroom. I was surprised how little attendance there was yesterday. I'm guessing most of you watched in a bar someplace.

Damn, I think a draw is a real possibility here, if not a surprising victory should the US realize the first 5 minutes and last 5 minutes still count in the match. And, what's with the extra 5 minutes in both US matches thus far? That raises a red flag for me as I suspect bags of cash being left on somebody's front porch...

The Ag/HD connection will bring a result. It may depend on the sixer and pizza though....I was able to watch the Portugal match with old housemates (all of us have accomplished to view at least one match together since '06) - and we started watching as bachelors, now everybody is married and little ones were running all around the room, of which the older ones of the bunch (4 and 5 year olds) watched the match and supported the US. It was great and the good karma will spill over to Germany, despite the result yesterday.

I predicted the 5 minutes. There were a lot of folks cramping up and being attended to.

Looks like Shiner Bock in the beer department, and a local pizza delivery outfit whose SMALL pizza is 16"

It's very important that Jones keeps his temper under control. I figure the German players will try to provoke him into doing something stupid.

The closer we get to this match the more nervous I am getting. It really doesn't help to look at Joe's US history thread, where we always seem to have one clunker of a match.

Jeez, I hope the Ghana and Portugal match ends in 0-0 draw.

Forget about our WC history, and think about sports in general. Hard to think of a team that has that heartbreaking of an ending turn right around and get a positive result the next time out. Throw in the short rest and I think we will be thinking about that ending...forever :angry-banghead:. Unless of course we get help in the other match. If ever a time to root the pretty boy on its Thurs.

Don't forget to layer the love that Germany will want to share with Jurgen on top of that Joe.

I think The Right Honourable Gentlemen from The Republic Of South Texas should try mint juleps with that pizza instead of plain ol' beer. That'll bring us good luck AND a result, for sure!

The naysayers in this thread have good points to make, but what I'm seeing is the cumulative result of following Fulham for an extended period. We all expect the worst and, when it doesn't happen, we just KNOW it's going to happen next time out.

I think we've already exceeded expectations. We have no control over Thursday's other match. We need to get something more than nothing. I think we're good enough, but we'll have to see.

Just throwing this out there...what if, at the first whistle, all the players sat down and had a nice picnic lunch. Both teams go through. Done and done. ;)

I'm okay with this idea. SInce they won't be needing them anymore the players can each get a checkered-board Crotia jersey to sit on.

I think history is out the window. I think these guys believe they have the coaching, the talent and the character to hang with the elite sides now. They know they had the Ronaldos. THEY KNOW THEY HAD THEM! If anything, I think they'll be emboldened and confident they can not only hang with the Germans, but beat them....and anybody else they may play in this tournament. The vets have the experience and know how to do it, and the kids are just athletic and naïve about the talent gap and have no fear. Sounds like a beautiful friendship.
We win 3-0, Clint gets a hat trick and the Germans and the rest of the planet will come to the realization that the gringos have figured out this whole futbol thing.

Jump, I will run naked through my neighborhood if the US wins 3-0. There will be photographic evidence too (yikes to y'all). But, on another point, this match demonstrates the growth of futbol. My father, who supported my entire soccer career, but was never a fan outside of my matches, brought up the US v. Ger in a conversation with my son and I yesterday when discussing my son's recent match. It was lovely and genuine. It's spreading, it may not happen tomorrow, but the seed is definitely planted.

That said, it'll be a knock down, drag out fight. All of the discussion of a gentlemen's agreement would be fine with me, but don't you think Low and Jurgen want to kick each others' ass? I do, it's just the nature of the beast. Still, that doesn't mean all the talk about playing to win isn't bluster to distract from the 'Berlin Peace Treaty.'

Enough stream of consciousness chatter, just all the best to everybody and think, pray and believe in a result tomorrow.

And, Jim. shouldn't you post the clip on here of your daughter that you did on Facebook just before the Portugal match?
