Start off with an optimistic view on the group results:
From the guy who does performance ranking on Crew MB
    NOW.. Algeria's pride is salved.

    Slovenia - 4
    USA - 2
    England - 2
    Algeria - 1

USA is second in Goals, IIRC.. need to look.

    Group C W D L GD PTS
    Slovenia 1 1 0 1 4
    USA 0 2 0 0 2
    England 0 2 0 0 2
    Algeria 0 1 1 -1 1

There is a very REAL possibility that this group is not as EASY as it looked back at the draw.

I simply cannot picture ENG not winning a game but it's a real possibility, nonetheless. And we can {could even before the first match} see that Algeria COULD win against us if we dont play well.

If we win, we're into the knock-out rounds. Full stop.

Well, I been a-cogi-ma-tatin' on it and think PERHAPS it's a sly way for England to avoid meeting Germany in the first knock-out. Who knows if that will work out!

Here's the good part: Start Edu and Buddle.

Everyone else same as started today.
Thing is Buddle and LD work very well together and it will, strangely enough, give Donovan an INSIDE strike capability. They've done that before, with Buddle laying the ball back as LD crashes in on the slant.

Of course, they've worked it the other way, too. And if Buddle doesnt snatch it, Edu and/or MB can follow and collect the goal.. Brilliant, WOT?

And Jozy circles round to collect rebound garbage from the other side.

If I were told at halftime of today's match that the U.S. would still control its own fate post-match, I would've danced a naked jig on my rooftop.

Come on, boys, this is it.

Thinking about the mathematical probs makes my head hurt but I saw this and it's mindboggling:

Would they use a Krugerrand, ya suppose?

That's as good a piece of football analysis as I've seen from anyone on the site.

I'm hoping that Findley's face-ball yellow, and his subsequent suspension, will force Bobbo to start Buddle. I'd hate to have gone out today without ever using the lad. I still have the memory of his destruction of Australia in my memmory bank.

Doubtful, not a clean sheet in the WC since 1950. However, I think the boys will nick one more than Algeria, 2-1.

hopefully they can actually score first this time. its absolutely shocking that they continually concede the first goal like that. if they cant pull off a win, they i hope they get greeted with rotten tomatoes at the airport.

Way too much optimism on here for my liking. :)

I don't think our defense this time is capable of a clean sheet...maybe Howard will have to have a game of his life for us to get one. But we need to get lead early and not be complacent with just one goal. I really hope I don't have to worry for 90+ minutes. I can't take that feeling one more time so soon.

I'd consider using Spector instead of Cherundolo for this match. Spector is maybe a little more solid on defense (this would be a great time to keep a clean sheet) and then if we were to win, you don't have to worry about Dolo maybe picking up a yellow and missing the next match.

disagree, Josh. With Belhadj running riot on their left wing, I want 'dolo back there, and I'm hoping that he'll get some support from Dempsey or Donovan back there.

Just saw why Nelsen is key to NZ on the prospect of them making it out of group

yeah, he is an awesome defender and needs to get back to dc united. ;)

I really wish FIFA would change the yellow card accumulation rule...2 cards is just so few. Especially when you can get one for the ball being played off your face.

We really need Dolo throughout the tournament. Plus, Spector hasn't played well recently.

the Ziani guy is the one guy that worries me. He's a quality player and we cannot let him receive the ball in between the midfield and defense or we'll be giving up more of those goals like the one Birsa scored.
