Interesting to see a few players I've never heard of playing in England invited, along w/West Ham's Lletget who has always been elusive (more rumor than player).

I'm not gettin' the absence of Jack McInerney and Freddy Adu on that list. I'm also concerned to see several Germans I've never heard of. That can only be the work of der Kaiser not Caleb Porter. Cant we give kids in our own system a chance first at the lower levels? I'll include Mix in that too. If Klinsmann really is instituting a uniform style of play at the younger levels so players can seamlessly fit into the senior system shouldnt we be giving our own players the benefit of this? Just seems a little mixed up to me.

Re: U23 Olympic Qualifying- US Cities

Fingers crossed the US team will be playing in Carson.

CONCACAF says its men's Olympic qualifying tournament will be held in three U.S. cities next spring.

The eight-nation tournament will determine the confederation's two representatives at the 2012 Olympic Games. There will be two four-team groups with the top two finishers from each group advancing to the semifinals.

Nashville, Tenn., will host games March 22, 24 and 26. Carson, Calif., will host matches on March 23, 25 and 27. The semifinals will be played in Kansas City, Kan., on March 31 and the final on April 2.

Six teams are in the tournament: the United States, Canada, Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala and Panama. The final round of Caribbean qualifying between Trinidad & Tobago, Suriname, Cuba and St. Kitts and Nevis will be played Nov. 24-28.

You would have to think the US is in Carson since the headquarters are out here.......at least that is my reasoning so I can hopefully see them play a game.

Too bad about Gatt. They will miss him. BTW, the first qualifier is Thursday night v Cuba. Broadcast on universal sports network and Mun2 at 9pm ET. Next game is Saturday v Canada on same networks at 7 pm ET.

I wonder how many Cubans will defect this time. Two players did at the womens qualifying in Vancouver, they had to get across the US border to do it.

Porter called in Sheanon Williams from Philly to replace Gatt and Peter Nowak is not happy about it. He said he and his player had no idea Williams was on the radar for a call-up at that point. A little old coach dissing the new guy perhaps.

I hope the boys are ready for this. I hope they are not underestimating Cuba. If I can think of one criticism of Porter it would be that his teams tend to be overly confident against opposition they are expected to easily handle. With so many important games so close together I could see them trying to pace themselves tonight and that would worry me. Cuba will be hungry.

14 of the 20 players are from MLS so some are calling it a referendum on the leagues progress.

Oh and the semi final and the final for qualifying are going head to head with the final four. Was there not something US Soccer could do to avoid that? Will there be anyone sitting in the stadium rooting for the USA? If we get there

    From the article Joe posted:

I call BS. It's no coincidence because Porter's Akron teams have been playing that way for years now. It's not because of Klinsmann. He hasnt been able to get the senior team playing that way.

Scratch that...I do have mun2. I thought I would have to have the Spanish language channel package to view that channel, but I get the channel as part of my "digital package."

5-0 right now near the 80th minute. The US has looked good, but their corners have been piss poor.

After a few minutes logged on my insightful post has been banished to cyberspace and lost to humanity forever. Way to represent Nev.

    Thanks, Mo.

6-0 final. Corona with a hat trick. Agudelo, Adu and an own goal by Cuba round out the scoring.

This squad could be tight - add some other professional U-23s from Europe and the 3 overage players - the US is winning a medal this year.

Joe Corona is awesome, glad he's on the US. Cuba didn't stand a chance after their red card. I missed a bit of the second half. I fell asleep on the couch after the Adu goal. I guess I saw what I needed to see.
