Finally, some Americans are taking notice of the world's game. Leave hockey to the Canuks and focus on footie.

Unfortunately this says more about the awful job the NHL did of marketing the playoffs (and their piss-poor TV deal) than it does about growth in soccer's audience. They're both still outdrawn by crap like poker and ultimate fighting.

I see that as good news. Very good news, indeed. It is all money in the bank, and support for American soccer.

Though let's be honest, 98% of that probably came from the Latin American communities.

Amen to that Don. As long as the sport is growing in popularity it is fine by me. Plus, the main target audience of Soccer/MLS is the Hispanic Community. Fantastic to see the numbers are heading in the right direction.

I'm a major hockey fan, so I didn't find it to be all that positive.

To be honest I haven't watched a hockey game for nearly 2 years. Use to watch the Wings and Black Hawks all the time, but it began to bore me. I must admit that the Stanley Cup Playoffs games are intense and I like to watch them even if I'm not supporting one side or the other.

Everyone is right... It doesnt matter to the sponsors WHO is watching and who they're rooting for. It's ALL good!

As to hockey, the NHL should have considered not having a contract at all before accepting that one.. short run they cut their losses, long term they look stupid and hurt their own credibility. And I have to wonder if even HD can affect hockey ratings. At most it makes for a tossup with soccer viewership.
Hockey is, was, and ALWAYS WILL be a 'personal attendance experience'. Rabid fans {same ones who defend the fighting on the field of play, and subscribe to 'WWE meltdown' in the off season} aside, who cares!

And the guy they're making all the fuss over and selling tickets for sure's hell aint a mexican.

Well, at least Feilhaber is starting to get the respect he deserves. He is a bright enough kid to realize if he isn't getting the first team time that he requires he can move on. Nice to know there is interest in him from other clubs now.

We done Benny. Now go get us a winner against the Argentines...

Thanks for the kind words. I apoligize for the grammatical errors, thought I had it all cleaned up, clearly not. Its what I get for editing the thing at 3am, that and discarding those endless grammar packets throughout grade school.

Well, I decided to let it go through as it was.

I juxtaposed a few sentences in the intro for continuity purposes but it's a good read as it is, and we want more of these 'color articles'

    Besides I'm on holiday...[IMG]

I was looking again at the game today, and I think I just realized that Castillo was offsides when he got the ball that led to their goal. Well, it's close and the camera angle isn't very good...but it looks offsides to me.

Not really complaining since we deserved it for Canada anyway, though.
