Interesting article over at espn regarding travels.

I've never thought about how the complexities of travel differ between leagues. It makes sense though. I also think that it's kind of odd that in most American sports leagues the teams require their players to stay in a hotel the night before home games.

Yeah, one of the things some Europeans don't seem to understand is the size of the US and how long it takes to travel from one major city to the next. Shame that's one of the needling reasons why the MLS can't attract some more of the 'bigger names' to the league.

I imagine they have the players stay in a hotel the night before the game is to keep them from getting into trouble. I think the Charlie Davies situation where he ignored the team curfew would be worst case scenario on what teams hope to avoid at all costs, but mostly because they don't want their athletes exhausting themselves from partying all night.

Regarding the hotel stay... I understand the idea of watching over them and possibly having team meals, meetings, and/or strategy sessions. I guess I'm getting old since my thought stemmed more around being comfortable at home with my family (as opposed to a hotel with a strange room and bed).
