I'm not in camp yet, probably because I've hardly been able to see them play.

 

It would be bad I am sure, but an American coach would be better than dirty 'array, I think

 

I would take that french guy whose name sounds like a fine wine. Laurent Blanc.

Edit that Marcelo Bielsa, I think he is available again. Didnt he leave Bilbao?

 

Don't know who per se, although I could cobble together something of a list since I posted one last season. I don't have the contacts in football that the club should have either. Given our restrictive budget, I'd steer clear of big names and managers who have led larger clubs. I'd be looking for guys with a track record of success with smaller clubs, guys who have a history of getting more from less and someone who has demonstrated an ability to be flexible tactically, who can mold a system to the guys he has instead of trying to force something that may not fit the players in house. For me, that last one was one of Jol's biggest flaws. I'd also look for someone who has demonstrated an ability to find and develop talent that isn't necessarily on everyone's radar. That's the one area that I think Jol has done well with.

I'm hard pressed to remember a match where we out-hustled the opposition this season or last, so effort is important. I also think we're weaker fundamentally since Roy left. Not just keeping shape, but set pieces, corners, movement, passing and tackling. Those are all things I'd evaluate when looking at a potential manager and his former teams. I'd like to see us go with someone younger, on the rise, but it's not essential. I would not want to see any of the usual retreads of English football (Curbishley, Warnick, Pardew, etc).

I'd probably look in the Championship, possibly League 1 and likely Germany. I'd also look at Spain although the best options there may have been picked clean already following the financial problems that hit most of their clubs not named Barca and Real.

I'd love someone who fits the old Bum Phillips quote: "He can take his'n and beat your'n and take your'n and beat his'n."

Found my list from last season. It didn't include any out of work managers at that time, nor did it include anyone outside of English football.

Obviously Martinez is no longer an option and not sure I'd still put Hughton ahead of Di Matteo. No longer think Rodgers is going anywhere either.

 

...DCHeather, this is the question often posed on message boards. In truth all we can do is speculate, but Fulham have over the years come out with some left field candidates that threw the faithful; who even knew that Tigana was in management, or thought that Cookie would take over, who would have envisaged Sanchez (OK not a great manager) and who seriously would have had Hodgson on their list of potential candidates.

I hope another (pleasant) surprise is in the offing.

On a personal level I can't wait to learn Jol has the backing of the board, and soon after we will all know who is the replacement that I suspect Mr McIntosh has already approached...

 

To those in the Jol out camp.....we're gonna have to start rationing food and sharing bunks. Camp is about to get massively overcrowded.

we may need a compound soon. but, hopefully, the int'l break gives MJSF a respite in which to recharge.

and i'd never thought of saying this before, but b. bradley doesn't look like such a bad option these days (and who knows given egypt's predicament - still would like to see him take that squad to the world cup. give him a chance in the prem, he's not the most sexy candidate but at least he's not a retread manager. maybe, just maybe, he could instill shape and discipline in the squad...lamenting that he can't score the goals, though.

 

If he brings his son with him, I'm all for it.
