    We had a thread that was active earlier in the month on locks for Brazil. Which begs a new question: Who will emerge last minute and earn a spot? Purely speculative at this point, but a fun discussion point.

    How about Dan Burn for the three lions?

    Usually the surprises have been a forward who catches fire during the lead up to the World Cup (Herc & Buddle).

    With that in mind and who hasn't been on Klinsi's radar lately, I will go with Juan Agudelo.

    He just went on loan to FC Utrecht in Holland and lets say he starts scoring a bunch of goals, he could get an invite. I doubt it happens, but it would be nice to see him do that.

    Lax - it was Agudelo's move (along with Gooch's recent return to, well, actually playing) that prompted the thread.

    For what it's worth, if Onyewu gets in some decent minutes at Wednesday, I think he could provide some cover in the back line.

    any last minute surprises will come from one [or both] of two sources;

    1. Tremendous form by a MLS player previously not fancied or on the fringe.

    2. Serious injury to a previous lock

    I"m sure that there will be a "June Surprise" but we're three months away from guessing intelligently.

    Gotta agree with the Gooch and Agudelo shouts. Klinsmann has actually said he wants Gooch in Brazil and from the account I read it sounds as if his debut for the Owls was a success. As far as a long shot surprise inclusion, how about Darlington Nagbe. He doesn't have citizenship yet, but apparently it is only US Soccer who specifies that as needed for representing the national team, not FIFA. By FIFA rules, Darlington would be eligible to represent the USA. If Klinsmann really wanted him perhaps he could convince US Soccer to modify the requirements. Here is an interesting article about it.

    Ream started again for Bolton today. He's getting a lot more time. Considering that JK didn't rate him when he and Bolton were in the Prem, I wonder if he's worth a look at the next international break. We're not exactly flooded with CBs who have played top-flight football.

    Unless Gooch can shed his concrete boots, I can't see him being the surprise. I agree with Mo on Nagbe in theory, but his getting clearance from US Soccer is a really, really big "if". I remember thinking Agudelo looked a good bet as a future breakthrough player at one point under Bob, so he's probably the most likely.

    Would Lichaj count? He's been featuring regularly at right back for Forest who have the 4th best defense in the Championship this season. With questions about Dolo due to health and age, he could be a candidate to have a surprise impact.

    Before people get up in arms over this guy, remember the title of the thread. Apparently his form for his club team is way up. Not sure if he would be even welcomed in the locker room, but if he goes to the Ukraine in March and performs..

    I'm hoping Chris Wondolowski has re-inserted himself into this conversation with his 2 goals today. He sure knows how to be in the right place at the right time. If he hadn't been playing hurt last season, I don't think he'd be a long shot.

    Magee, set to earn his first cap, ended up missing the day entirely with food poisoning. D'oh!

    I volunteer to encase Cameron in bubble wrap until June.

    I'm thinking Agudelo may make a push given he's starting and playing for FC Utrecht these days. Gomez seems to be off given his injuries, but Wondo and McGee could still earn a spot as well (a la Buddle).
