No need for anyone to apologize or lock the thread over my comment in the fulham supporters vs. American's thread. I went back and read it and I sound like an ass.

    So I apologize.

I am ready for a win, and we are all on the same side. COYW!

It was your opinion and right now is a heated time for all Fulham fans, regardless of their reasons for supporting the team. No need to apologize, we are all frustrated at the situation.

A win this weekend will get everyones spirits back up!

Sorry, pard; I didn't mean to get that reaction from my suggestion to lock the thread. You made a lot of sense with your post and I agreed with what you said in conclusion.

This is the nicest, most considerate, most polite site you're ever going to find. Glad you found us and please keep on posting.

You picked the right section for an I am an ass thread.

But, like don said, you only voiced an opinion on the subject. But it had been threahed over in the same way, so...it was time for it to be closed.

...So the topic is locked due to a few sensitive souls...

...no worries. Logged out myself now, this is tantamount to the censorship and denying the right to reply that I thought was the ethos of this MB.

A small minority who commented found the topic offensive, I thought it the question was germane and reasoned. Different opinions is what it was all about.

Therefore let's now have a message board where only everyone agrees and does not pose thought provoking questions...

Ah... now the conversation is definitely in the right section...

And how does that make you feel?

    - - - - - -- - - - -
Now to LBN's bleatings of censorship..

Censorship is best defined as the stifling of freedom to express views within a group.
    Didnt happen.

What did happen is all the viewpoints were expressed and then re-expressed. When you start to see the same statements and same arguments over and over, the thread topic has been exhausted and it's no more about being a Fulham fan.. it's about US.

If there were censorship, the thread or posts in the thread might have been deleted.
Anyone can still read the views expressed, there... and comment on them here.
We, like most US and many brit boards, dont allow random bleatings to be posted just anywhere, and/or multiple times..Unlike the two OTHER boards for Fulham.
But that doesnt mean we delete them.

And to think I hadn't even gotten to my "why the Japanese left when Immamoto left" angle. You snooze You lose.

IMO, thought the thread while getting a bit repititious certainly still had legs and I found interesting reading.

::sits down in therapist chair:: Well as the youngest child of 19 children, my spectacular vernacular would always go unnoticed. Do you think this has to do with a deficiency in my intellect, or that I was the red headed step child?

Take two of these each morning, no drinking and be careful while driving.

Report any hallucinations or 'out of body' feelings immediately.

By the way.. I just deleted Jacob's post on why I commented in his post, now fixed, pointing out my screwup!

I must maintain an air of confidence about me, your mod, on here.

Well... now you brought it up again.. so?!!!!

The topic is really not about Fulham, it's about human nature.. and the herd or community instinct, whichever you wish to call it.

    Thus belongs here.

    The right to reply

...1) I was not bleating, only pointing out that the thread had been locked, probably because a small minority recognised their own shortcomings, despite what I understood about the objectives of this forum.

    2) Based on what criteria is a decision made that a thread has become boring or repetetive? Do people not have a right to reply, whatever their views, and irrespective of their chosen speed of response? How can they reply now the thread is locked.
Surely if the thread had become boring and repetetive - then people would have stopped viewing it and commenting.

Suffice to say that it is up to the administrators how they control a message board based on their own interpretation of the content, and on what pressure they endure to before locking.

Finally - if people bother to read the original message properly, they will see that a perfectly reasonable question had been asked based on a premise given...

    RE: The right to reply

    Asked and answered... reasons given.

There is no right to keep a thread alive ad-infinitem. There is no right to post what you post WHERE you want to post it.. that the mods' job.

It is a democracy only in the right to express views... it is NOT a community of equals in organizing it.

There is only the right to express views. You did... now the topic thread is here, again the reasons are given.

This isnt a playpen like the 'banterdome' or even 'Banterdome-Jr', and if you want to see a MB with some REALLY hard-ass mods, I can point you right to one.

    Have you thought about Windmills?

AGAIN! The topic is not closed... only that thread on it is. If SoCalJoe has a view on where the Inamoto fans went, here's a good place... if LBN wants to illuminate and expand his thoughts on fandom.. here's a good place.

If you want to give me stick on why I thought it should have been closed (though >>>> TOM WILLE<<<< actually did it) then here's the place.

    RE: The right to reply

I will take stick for locking the thread. Not everyone is going to agree with the decisions made around here.

The bottom line is this as was posted by a few others....we are in the midst of a relegation battle and we are all a little nervous and uncertain about what is going to happen with our beloved Cottagers. Thus, tensions are high right now.

That being said, I have seen threads like these in the past on this and other boards where people make valid points on the topic and others make personal attacks. I am not going to let this board go down that road.

Perhaps I pulled the plug a bit soon but I stand by my decision to do that. I apologize if I offended anyone.

    ...thread closed not topic..?

...the topic is not closed ... only the thread is! That sounds like a politicians answer.

    Q) If the topic is not closed, why has it been moved?
    Q) If the thread was becoming 'past it's sell by date' why has it generated 10 posts about the original thread in two days.

Look PF, the last thing I want is a banterdrome along the lines of a certain exponent in the UK, the playpen jibe, if aimed at me was below you. I have only entered into debate, if you consider my posts facile tell me straight and you can all get on in insular peace.

Re the windmills comment, lost in translation, or perhaps my intellect has a shortfall.

Re the stick - consider it administered :big grin:

EDIT: on reflection, even though the topic is still apparently open, the theme has been diverted into a different debate about the merits of closing a debate.

Sad fact is that Fulham are in trouble and I would rather spend all my energies worrying about that and if we get relegated then we can spend the whole summer setting up a poll as to who we should make personal attacks against or worrying that "The Peoples Republic ChicagoTom" might become a communist despot.

COYW - 3 point against 'pool for sure.

If that is the case, I hope he moves towards a more capitalistic economy model. Failing to do so will result in country wide famine and mass unemployment, 48.589% to be exact. All the people milling about will lead to a coup attempt. I for one would not like to see ChicagoTom ousted in a bloody seizure of power.

    ok ok I'm done.

Does message board blood look different than real life blood?

And besides, Tom can take it... he's a Chicagoan... they're tough folk. They have to be since they're all bitter that the only big cities anyone mentions regularly are NY, LA and Miami.
