On the official website, they announced that there will be a vote to name the MLS team in the Emerald City. You can read about it here:

    http://www.mlsinseattle.com/article.aspx?id=1092

Unfortunately, Sounders is not one of the naming options. Voting starts on the 27th and ends on the 31st. You can bet I'll place my vote.

I hear that the name "Supersonics" is soon to be available. Or the "Pilots."

The name "Pilots" for me will forever live in infamy. I wasn't alive to witness the move, I rue the day they took away Seattle's first MLB franchise. I did have a chuckle at the supersonics. The demands their ownership is making are just bogus.

Possible leaks of the new name:

    Seattle FC
    Seattle Republic
    Seattle Alliance

I'm very unhappy to put it nicely. Hopefully these names are proven false come Tuesday when they're released. If they do happen to be put on the ballot.... I just might have to join FFCinPCB and loathe the league.

I always hear jacknuts wanting something like SC Emerald City FC 1869. I just don't want another "Seattle Storm" or something like that. Traditional "American" names annoy me with soccer.

Though for Philly, a (SC) Liberty SC or something sounds classy and historical.

How about FC Umbrella for Seattle and Let's Boo Santa United for Philly?

Good news!!!!! If I understand correctly, you will get a write in vote on the team name as well as choosing from the lackluster candidates. If not, I'm still happy there is a write in vote option

    Idiots!

Buy the Sounders, lock stock and name. When MLS comes in the Sounders are worth about $1.98.

The Sounders owners bought the MLS franchise, so the Sounders are "folding" as a USL-1 team. In fact, the owners negotiated a deal that allows them to pick up up to five of the Sounders players for the MLS team.

It looks like you're right Ianhux5: The three choices are Seattle Alliance, Seattle FC and Seattle Republic and then the write in. I'm praying someone in the Seattle area is working on a grassroots attempt for a write in. The Alliance...the Republic....You've got to be kidding me.

It kind of reminds me about my hometown of Columbia, SC. In the past 8 years, they've tried twice to come up with a new slogan for the town. They even found the people that came up with "Virginia is for Lover's" (They haven't produced much since then). The ideas they came up with were laughed off..."Where friendlyness flows" was the last big winner. Hell, I can't even get my neighbor's to loo at me. Needless to say, I hope they get a big write and come up with something that works well for the team and the area.
But there's only a few days to vote...I mean write in a vote.

psand22 -- How about: "nobody's here on the weekend unless the Gamecocks are at home?" Sums up my memories of Columbia!

Easy there killer! The Pacific NW was my home for 4 years -- Ft Lewis WA. I liked it there. There are many worse places to be stationed on stateside duty. No one ever died from a little bit of rain -- or 9 months worth of it.

Well, if they were in the lovely little town of Quincy it'd be 'Where are the evergreens? FC'

On a more serious note, keep the tradition alive and write in "Sounders" as your vote. I would be very disappointed if "Alliance" wins........... (and that's putting it nicely)

    I like Seattle FC

I dont like the Sounders because I dont like their colors, and I dont understand why teams in the US have to have mascots. They can have nicknames and they can have some guy in an animal suit run around for the kids - but keep it simple and just go with Seattle FC!

And dont they dare go with the damn green and teal color scheme. We are not the Mariners and we are not the Sonics (Buh Bye!) - or even the Sea Chickens. The whole state is not rain, evergreens and within 25 miles of puget sound. I hate the west side... I grew up there - it sucks.

Biggest industry in Washington? Agriculture. Lets be red for apples...

I am really excited about getting a team BTW - even if it is green and teal - I am stoked.
