    First Roy chose Norwich keeper John Ruddy and the infamous Rob Green over Stockdale as back up keepers to Hart. Now, Ruddy broke a finger and Roy boy has further insulted Stockdale by choosing 19 yr old Jack Butland as his replacement. Really bad decision if you ask me. I guess Butland is suppose to be a wonderkid keeper but he is in the championship and has never seen first team action. I understand wanting to give the kid the experience with the senior team, but the euros is not the time to do it. He should have replaced a premier league keeper with another experienced premier league keeper. I have to wonder if this is Roy trying to separate himself from his mediocre Fulham image. Did he select any West Brom players? I hope this decision doesnt come back to haunt him. If something were to happen to Hart you have to choose between Green and a 19 yr old with no high level game experience.

    Also just look at the name - Butland. The English will have a field day with it.

    The only way I see this being okay is if the plan is to put Stockdale on the olympic squad.

    Unless he gets hurt or a red card Joe Hart is going to see every minute of every match. Roy asked his own WBA keeper Ben Foster to come out of international retirement, but he declined;

    Robert Green is still a really good GK, and instrumental in getting Spam promoted, but the curse of that position is one bone-headed play gets attached to you forever; 'Robert Green, Goal Keeper best known for letting in a goal in the WC...' Personally I have a lot of respect for a guy who didn't let one play ruin his career. He played well in the pressure cooker of the Promotion playoffs so he gets the edge over the non-playing Stockdale. You could argue about the 3rd keeper spot, but if the third choice has to play you're done anyway.

    Mo, as for wondering about Roy distancing himself from his 'mediocre Fulham image', rest assured that Roy would never choose a player in terms of how it made him look, and certainly would never consider anything about Fulham in those terms. In fact he'd tell you if wasn't for his amazing run at our favorite club he wouldn't be managing England. Roy has traveled the world to manage (twelve years ago he was at a club called Grasshopper :shock: ) at some of the biggest clubs on the planet (Inter, Liverpool), 3 other national sides (Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, Finland), and outposts (Oddevold, Orebro). He goes, does his thing for a couple of seasons (36 years and 20 different gigs) and moves on and tells you he is richer for the experience.

    Butland has actually been on loan at Cheltenham Town the past two seasons. So England's fourth-choice keeper was in League Two while Spain's is David de Gea.
