I'm going to watch Leeds play since I try to follow them. Use to live there and had my first child there. Does anyone understand the 15 pts they were docked this year. I think it had something to do with shares or something. I would much appreciate any insight. Also, the FA cup. Is it the same as the Carling Cup Fulham played in or different. I find all the cups very confusing.

Mo; just google it. It's a little complex to explain, but they played fast and loose with the rules and got zapped for it -- totally UNlike West Ham

The FA Cup is a different cup. The Carling Cup is a competition between teams of the Football League (Championship, League One and League Two) and the Premier League. The FA Cup is open to, pretty much, any reasonably organized club that applies for inclusion to the FA. This includes Prem teams, CCC, L1, L2 teams, Conference teams, all the way down to basically pub teams.

    Hi Mo,

Leeds were docked points for finacial irregularity. In the UK, before becoming backrupt an organisation can go into administration, where the assets are frozen and the organisation is re-organised. It is a last chance to become solvent or saleable before being closed. In football, any team that goes into administration is automatically docked 10 pts as a way of preventing a team from living beyond its means.

Leeds were not in real finacial difficulty, but went into administration to allow them to reorganise their debt, they waited until they were relegated so the points deduction could not harm them. The FA thought this was unfair and so deducted them 15 points from the start of this season for playing outside the spirit of the rules.

    With regards to the cups...

The FA cup is the oldest domestic cup competition in the world. All teams in England must be registered with the FA to play football at any standard. Any team can enter the FA cup by playing and qualifiying through feeder tournaments, hence the first round is really called the first round proper as it is the round that the 2 lower division leagues are introduced. Traditionally, the top and second teir league teams play from the third round proper. The FA cup final should be the last domestic game played in England.

The Carling cup is really the League Cup. This is open to all Football League and Premier league teams. There is also the league trophy, this is a cup played for by the bottom 2 leagues only.

To top flight teams will play in the Premier League, FA cup and League cup each season, some will also play in the UEFA cup and/or Champions League. A division one or two team will play League, FA cup, League cup and League trophy.

    Hope that helps.

    Regards

    GBFC.
