DC Heather and Dave and any other DC...well I dont know the term yet...but looks like I will be moving up to DC (area) as my girlfriend is about 90% sure of taking a job up there...and w/ no real team since the Mutiny i will have to take in some D.C. United matches...although the way they made me feel leaving tampa stadium was never great.......but just wondering some tips for newbies making the trip from the sunshine state to the capital city....let me know areas to live, in's and out's.....i've been to DC last year for 6 days but that was hardly enough to take it all in...well gotta get goin still have that buzz about me and my girlfriend getting to live in a "real BIG city" b/c besides the mouse, orlando, while fun and nice...isnt a proper city....

    Thanks for any help!

I would say the "in" place to live in right now is Arlington; lots of bars, good eating, close to the city, plenty of entertainment, plenty of shopping, everything a young person could want (and safe). Alexandria is good, too, but a not as close to the city. Everything else in the city is hit and miss. It really varies from block to block, and there is a lot of gentrification going on. Be prepared to spend a lot of money on place in the city, it's getting to be quite $$$$. Silver Spring can be good value for money, but that can vary from block to block, as well.

I agree with DCHeather. I live in McLean, which is near Arlington and Alexandria, and both places are a lot of fun. There are also some gentrifying areas of the District that are affordable (but I am not familiar with the specific areas, though).

DC United puts on a really good show, my guess is that you will be a big fan in a very sort time.

Let us know when you're moving up. It'll be nice to have another Cottager here!

we would be thinking of of moving mid January, as she is to start near the end of Jan 2007...bit of excitment and nerves, but mostly excited for a new adventure to take on....so its looking good to go, and look forward to it and meeting the both of you.....would it be wrong to add the DC tag to my fulhamusa name???? ha!

Well I'll be in the lovely city of Fairfax as a new resident by this time next week, will be moving up there Jan 5th..very excited for the move (not moving, who is!) and to get some cold weather...although i'm sure my florida habits will soon come back and i'll miss flip flops year around!!!

As soon as I get my stuff together up there, I'd love to take in a Fulham match at a pub in DC..as the last stop on the orange line is minutes away from my new place....
