    Stuff I'm surprised I haven't read on here yet:

    1. Landon Donovan being the player of the year again -- Dempsey not being in the top 3, by the way -- and A FULL YEAR EARLY being named Player of the Decade.

    2. Hot rumors of Gordon Strachan moving to a better quality league. After a few months rest after leaving Celtic, he's supposed to be taking over Middlesboro in the CCC.

    3. Bob Kraft looking to buy a European club -- but only if there's a salary cap in the league. That's like me announcing that I'm interested in sleeping with Angelina Jolie -- but only if she's a virgin.

    HD, now that you've brought it up...

    1. Clint not being in the top 3??? Jozy's one La Liga goal and being Villareal's 5 choice striker (before being loaned out) should garner more adulation than Clint's solid and productive Premier League season?? What a joke, let me geuss Harkes was the lone vote.

    2. What? slugging it out against Falkirk and St. Mirren isn't appealing to wee Gordon anymore? shocking.

    3. :lol: sorry Don, I'm afraid that horse left the barn.

    Not sure how the Donovan thing is surprising. Unless somebody scores 40 goals against Denamrk, Donovan is the best player of this decade. He was a major reason why the US went so far in 2002(also a major reason why they didn't go further),has been brilliant in just about every Gold Cup and has led the US to a final of a FIFA tournament. Not sure what else he could do.


    The Dempsey thing is a joke. He scored goals in the Confederations Cup and has played well for his club team. He's played like crap since that tournament, but he's still a top 3 contender.

    The Honda Player of the Year award is voted on by journalists. No idea who is on the list, but I bet a majority of them don't watch soccer.

    Instead they rely on PR from the USSF. And who is their golden boy? Not Clint. Or anyone who plays in England. (See: Tim Howard last year).

    Well, did the first decade begin on year zero or year one?

    And who counts to ten by going 0-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9?

    The year, decade, and century start with nn00. Sorta like the clock in soccer... it starts with the 'first minute'. If kickoff resulted in goal at :29.. it is in 'first minute'

    Actually everyone does... depending on whether the count is virtual or literal. If virtual, the count is anticipatory. If literal, like counting off time with a clock or watch, the '00' starts with 'now'.

    IIRC, Jozy scored more goals for the USMNT that Dempsey did this year.

    And it doesn't really matter how you count the decade. Donovan has won enough times this "decade" that there is ZERO change of anyone else winning the award.

    I never said I disagreed with either his selection for the year or for the decade. I fully agree with both. I was just a little stunned to see Dempsey didn't make the top 3. If I were voting, it would have been 1. Donovan, 2. Howard, 3. Dempsey

    For clarity: "The 80s" began on Jan 1, 1980. "The ninth decade of the 20th century" began Jan 1, 1981.

    'fog, bringing up Y2K as supporting evidence for anything is laughable. That's the biggest boondoggle, "Much Ado About Nothing" non-event in my life.

    And are there any Redskins fans on this board? I've been following this utter fiasco all season and it never seems to end.

    First it was The Post revealing that leftover season tickets were being sold to third parties, not those actually on the waiting list. Then it was Snyder and Co suing fans for reneging on their season ticket contracts (because, you know, it wasn't like they were losing their homes or anything). Then it was the Bingo Caller calling the shots, not the coach.

    Now its banning all signs -- even wishes to husbands in Afghanistan.

    Does all this prove why there really should be relegation in American sports? Or is it just more evidence that Dan Synder really is the anti-christ?

    Timmy, thanks for posting the backroom stuff about Synder (totally unaware) never cared one way or the other about Washington, but Synder is a train-wreck that is hard to keep your eyes off. The ticket fiasco harks back to the LA Rams move from the Coliseum to Anaheim. Georgia Frontiere moved hundreds of long time season tickets holders from their prime locations (moved them from the 50 yard line to the 20) and gave the tickets to her friends and hairdresser husband (who sold them on the side). Synder was obviously successful in prior endeavors, but he's a joke as an NFL owner.

    Don. Y2K was much ado about nothing because IT guys like me busted our butts for 18+ months to make the necessary changes. The systems in the company that I worked for at the time would have ceased operating when midnight struck if we hadn't made tens of millions of dollars of changes. It was a non-event because we prepared for it, not that the preparation wasn't required.

    Marlon King jailed for 18 months following club attack

    Wigan striker Marlon King has been jailed for 18 months after being found guilty of groping a young woman in a nightclub and then breaking her nose when she spurned his "disgusting'' advances, with the Premier League club confirming they will now sack the player.

    Marlon King has played only 15 minutes for Wigan this season.

    King, who was celebrating both his wife's pregnancy and scoring a winning goal hours earlier, was repeatedly "cold-shouldered'' by women revellers in London's packed Soho Revue Bar last December.

    When a slightly-built university student became the latest to recoil from his touch, he lost his temper and in an outburst of "completely gratuitous violence'' lashed out, "smashing'' her to the floor. His single clenched fist blow was so powerful that two other revellers - one of them holding on to his arm - were also sent flying.

    While bouncers moved in to restrain the muscular £5 million striker, friends rushed to the aid of his victim. As she was helped to her feet, blood poured from her shattered nose, London's Southwark Crown Court heard.

    The 29-year-old, from Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, claimed he was a victim of "mistaken identity''.

    But after hearing overwhelming evidence from a string of witnesses, including a football coach who insisted he was the assailant, the jury decided he was lying.

    He was unanimously convicted of sexually assaulting the 20-year-old and causing actual bodily harm.

    Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has confirmed that the club will give King notice that his contract at the club will be cancelled following Thursday's news.

    Whelan told Sky Sports News: "We have to follow the rules and regulations, which means we will have to give him 40 days notice that his contract will be cancelled.

    "He is absolutely sacked - we will not tolerate football players who get sent to jail for 18 months. As far as we are concerned, he is finished with football at Wigan Athletic.''

    Thank God he ended signing w/Wigan instead of us. Utter disgrace.

    King fondles student. After several requests to stop, King says "Don't you know I'm a millionaire. You're not even in my class." Student says, "Well, why don't you take your milllion pounds and leave us alone." King responds by punching her in the face and breaking her nose.

    if 18 months seems a lot, consider that he's already a convicted felon -- stolen goods or property.

    I really hope he does the whole 18 months. What a scumbag indeed!

    I know Marlon isn't the nicest person to look at, but it sounds like every chick at the bar rejected him! Kinda comical.


    Of course this was a stupid act and he deserves to be sacked from WIgan. Hopefully he's not allowed back into football. Geez Marlon, you have a wife and a hand for crying out loud!
