NHL Playoffs

I saw a post about the NBA Playoffs so I thought I'd start this one.

Not wanting to offend anyone with my opinion about the quality of product that is the NBA, I will instead promote the NHL Playoffs.

To me, the sport that most resembles soccer is hockey: there is relatively little scoring, the game is fast, it requires more than a short attention span, the players are required to be at peak fitness (and fitness - combined with heart - often determines the outcome), and if you "blink" you might miss a goal.

As a Colorado Avalanche fan, I am stoked that my Avs are renewing their rivalry with the Detroit Red Wings in the Western Conference Semifinals. I have watched this rivalry since its inception in 1995 (when the Avs moved to CO), and at its peak, it was the most intense rivalry in all of sports.

Bradical, going to game 1 Tuesday night. hoping it will be at least 1-1 by that point. Osgood coming in, that's great for the Avs.

 

The absence of the Hawks is of course devastating but the NHL playoffs are still the best postseason of any sport in my mind...bar none, I'm looking at you NCAA Tournament.

 

dtowndough - I'll be going to Game 6 (if necessary) - I'm predicting the Avs will be up 3-2 by then and Osgood will be long gone...

well, didn't start off so well last night. Hopefully Saturday afternooon goes a little better.

I hate the Rangers with all of my heart. They knocked my Devils out and now I want them to lose almost as much as I want Fulham to stay up next year. I hope the Pens sweep their stupid asses and send them off in shame.

 

That was awful. The Pens are a dirty team and they get kid glove official treatment like they're full of Lady Byng winners. But the Rangers can't blame officiating for that one like they can for game 1. They had a pile of power plays and got nothing done. It's time for a house cleaning.

 

Don't hate the Pens just because they are smart enough to tank for the best draft pick a couple of years ago.

This has been the most depressing series...

 

Not looking good at all. I can take solace in the fact that the Avs have competed pretty well in this series, except for Game 2. The Red Wings are an exceptional team, as much as that makes me ill. I think the Avs are in for an overhaul...

 

F'n Rangers. Come on!

 

I'm exhausted today from staying up to watch the Stars knock out the Sharks in 4OT. There is nothing in sports more exciting than a playoff hockey game in sudden death overtime! I couldn't even pick a close second.
