    Anyone watching?

I drove 8+ hours round-trip to watch the Kings lose in double-OT in Vegas last night. Like just about everyone else, I was skeptical about a team there, but they’ve done a remarkable job both on and off the ice. I still want the Kings to win, though.

Sharks-Ducks should be an entertaining series, also. Too bad they can’t both lose.

Saw on FB you drove out there, you did spend the night right? Just asking since the game didn't end until well past 11. My Bro-In-Law is a huge Kings fan so I did watch most of Game 2 to keep up w/his texts, but aside from the US Women's Gold Medal match v Canada (what a game!) I haven't seen a game since last year's playoffs. Is it a sin to hope both SoCal teams do well?

Yes, I spent the night. I’m crazy, but I’m not that crazy.

And, to your other question, it’s a sin to ever hope the Ducks do well.

I live in the nation's capital, what are these "playoffs" you speak of? We play an annual "post-season exhibition" here, it never lats more than 6 games.

FDC, now that was funny. The Caps playoff misadventures transcends the NHL and they have to at or near the top of franchises that torture their fans.

Tim, since the SoCal teams are 0-5 so far the playoffs look short lived.

@FulhamDC I know you don't want to jinx anything, but even casual observers can respect Alex Ovechkin exercizing the demons and getting to his first conference championship.

WE BEAT THE PENGUINS!!! WE BEAT THE PENGUINS!!!

It's like we won the cup, the world series and the super bowl all at once around DC today, this is how beat down the fan base (well, what there is of it) in this city.

Here's Ovechkin after the game last night, it goes off the rails at about 23 seconds:

He's the one thing the Penguins didn't have this time, unlike all those other times they beat us.

@FulhamDC Watched some of Game 2, and saw ‘The Save’ live. Are Caps fans daring to believe?

Believe? Not sure, but the town is definitely all in. The Caps are doing watch parties at the arena for the away games, and even though our crap metro system closes before the games are over, they had 14,500 in there last night. Willing to bet it's at capacity for game 5.

I didn’t know there were any Caps fans here. That’s great! I’ve been a diehard fan since my first game at Cap Centre vs the Minnesota NorthStars in first grade (77/78). The next year they got Dennis Maruk and somehow he and my dad got to know each other. For my birthday in 3rd grade, he gave us tickets and passes to go to the locker room and on the ice after the game. I’ve got pictures of my best friend at the time and myself with Maruk, Mike Gartner and Ryan Walter. We went to a handful of games each year until we moved to TX.

I used to have one of those old mid-70’s clock radios that I’d adorned with the stickers of all 21 NHL teams (at the time) that I’d collected from hockey card packs and would go to bed listening to Ron Weber when they were playing. I’ve been through all the highs and lows following what is probably the biggest choker in pro sports. No team championship in any sport, by any team, would mean more to me than seeing my Capitals lift the Stanley Cup.

To Joe’s question, do I believe? More than at any other time in the last 20 years, but guardedly so. Some old habits are hard to break.

@AggieMatt Ron Weber? Now that's going back!

And after 21 years away from the radio booth, Ron Weber will be back tonight! Get your favorite radio app or plain old computer and tune it to the Caps flagship radio station, 106.7 WJFK here in Washington to hear him once more.

Bruins fan here. There are only 2 local pro teams that have my interest; DC United and the Nationals. I used to have sympathy for the Charlie Brown of the hockey league (the Caps), but after seeing the football pulled away so many times...the Lucy in me started to enjoy it.

What happens if Charlie actually kicks the football? Do we want to live in that world?

Lol Heather!! As a Red Sox fan I’m sure you can appreciate Charlie Brown kicking the football or in your case kicking the Curse of the Bambino.

I’m a sucker for any long suffering fans (Since I am one in practically every sport) finally winning a title in their lifetime. Also for a great player like Ovechkin to get it done, when so many times it ‘was time to trade him’ after playoff failures. Salud to Matt & FDC, yes it really happened.

Congrats to the Caps and their fans. Truly deserving. I've thought Ovechkin was the best player in the league for a long time. Now he's got the big trophy to go along with it. There's nothing quite like the feeling of seeing your team skating around the rink with the Cup. And what other sport's playoffs are named after the hardware you win? One of the best days on the sports calendar, in my humble opinion.
