The 3 weeks (last week and the next 2) of the NFL playoffs are 99.9999% of the time better than the Super Bowl (which has been ruined because of all the crap leading up, through, and surrounding it). Last week's Colts/Chargers game was playoff gridiron football of the highest order and there are some interesting matchups Sat/Sun.

    1) Titans/Ravens; Rough and tough this will come down to turnovers. Ravens in an upset.

    2) Panthers/Cardinals; Carolina will run the ball and are simply too good for Arizona

    3) Eagles/Giants; arch rivals, no secrets between them. Tough game to call since Philly is on a roll. I'll take the champs, but just barely.

    4) Steelers/Chargers; Like Philly San Diego needed a miracle to make the playoffs and are playing w/house money. We're hosting a get together for this one and my wife (the die-hard Steeler fan) is officially in nervous-mode. Not sure what to expect out of Big Ben after his concussion, but if he doesn't throw any stupid picks, Pittsburgh will win.

Count on those picks by Big Ben. I like San Diego, Baltimore, Carolina, and the NY Giants.

Balmer and Pittsburgh in the AFC, Philly and Carolina in the NFC. SD/Pitt is a tough call, but I'm thinking the old west coast team travelling east thing will be the difference.

A sign the apocalypse is nearly upon us...The Arizona Cardinals are 1 home win away from the Super Bowl. Philly has to win this game don't they?? I'll take the Eagles and will most surely will lose.

AFC; My wife has every Steeler "stuff" (coffe mugs, shot glasses, magazine covers, signs, and her trusty "Terrible Towel") imaginable on display at the casa right now. This will be a knockdown drag out brawl on Sunday afternoon, I'll take the Steelers making the rookie qb pay for one or 2 mistakes.

Anyone actually gonna make a prediction this round? And thanks to Don for avoiding his overused "pointy" football reference while slagging on the sport.

I'll go with Balmer and Arizona. I've been using the old goal differential theory in predicting so far (PF v PA) and it's been fairly successful...except for those darn Cardinals. I should pick Philly in this one, but with it being in AZ I'm sticking with the Cards.

Ravens v Cardinals in the Super Bowl has to be the least desirable of the possible matchups for the NFL.

(Edited b/c in my delay in posting, someone actually made a pick)

In answer to Martin, if I picked my EPL side based on my NFL team (the Cowboys) I'd likely be a chelsea supporter....ugh!

    Ravens, Cardinals

So essentially I'm predicting the most difficult-to-hype Superbowl ever.

I'm NO fan of Bidwell's but it is time for the fans of Phoenix and the hanger-on'ers in St. Louis to see the Cardinals win a Super Bowl. I don't think they have had a decent team since '68 when Jim Hart and Jackie Smith were on the team.

Okay, since nobody else seems interested in asking, I will.

    Arizona Cardinals?

I think it is great and hope they 'outclass' the Ravens. Really any bird is classier than a Raven, except maybe a buzzard.

Actually the Cards were pretty good in the '70s/early '80s, making the playoffs a few times and having one of the best offenses in the game (coached by Don Coryell in the 70s).

Good for the Cardinals, I will be rooting for the underdog, although I wish they were still in St. Louis. Arizona sportsfans are just so hard to take seriously.

It certainly gives hope to moribund franchises everywhere.
