I'm going to bet the long-shot, here.

It's not only SGE that has announced his leave after WC06; Bruce Arena has also said he's leaving.

Since Arena's not ready to retire, and has established that he still wants to prove himself by progressive successes, he has two options:

    1. Taking an English League job, either in Coke Championship to take a team into the Prem, or taking a Prem job with one of the strugglers.

    2. Taking on a higher profile national side. England would be perfect for him

Arena having a chance at England would hinge, however, on the US getting out of their group of death.

Making it to the round of eight, again, would prove his mettle and I think he would have a good chance at the England job if he wanted it.

Sorry Petty, I do not think Arena has a chance in hell of coaching England in the near future. Perhaps a club, but not the national team.

It's been a long time since you guys have weighed in on this, but I was wondering if I'm the only one who sees the EFA interviewing Big Sam and Curbishly the same way that NFL, MLB interview black candidates just to show they're not just looking for the same old white dudes.

I think they've decided on a continental, and they're just going through the motions.

I do like Arena for the job, though, since I don't really think he's the best guy to lead our troops.

Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren has been confirmed as the new England manager by a unanimous vote by the Football Association today.

England really went out on a limb with this hire with McClaren being Sven's assistant and all.
