Well, we've seen what he can do with limited resources. Now we'll see what he can do with almost unlimited resources.

Will they be calling for his head if he loses two in a row? On the SAF thread there was talk of an American equivalent, and John Wooden came to mind (10 titles in 12 years). After his retirement the pressure cooker was too hot for any of his successors (5 coaches in the following 15 after the Wizard's farewell). It's been 40 years since Wooden left and a couple since his death, but his shadow still looms. If given time Moyes will be successful, but have severe doubts he'll be given it.

The corollary to this is when the legendary Bill Shankly retired, it was certain that his replacement at Livepool would never do enough to live up to Shanks's reputation. When his right hand man, Bob Paisley was appointed, everyone -- including me -- thought he'd be overmatched and gone in no time. Instead, Paisley turned out to be the greatest coach in Liverpool's long history.

    Could happen again!?!?!

I don't know that he'll need much time. He runs the same formation and his style isn't all that dissimilar to what United have played, plus he inherits a very strong team. Should be a very seamless transition. The only things I can see that would derail him are a significant exodus of players (I wouldn't count Rooney as a massive loss on his own) or if the veterans dig in their heels and won't support him. The latter doesn't appear to be an issue and I'd be surprised if it becomes one.

If Sir Alex sticks around to foster the transition as it appears will happen I have a hard time seeing the players not supporting Moyes or being out the door forthwith.
