I see a lot of MLS threads, so I thought I would just start a new one with everything MLS in it.

Nice win for the Fire today over Chivas USA, 5-2. It was a bad first half, but the second half was absolutely splendid. I hope the Fire can continue upward in the Eastern Conference. It seems to be a race for second place as New England is running away with it.

Heh... not to brag or anything... but I KNEW the Fire was gonna rebound from the poor start.

is what I posted on April 24th as to how I saw the end of season looking.

Now the big ? is WTH is DC!
They're having a tough time getting out of the blocks and KC has pulled back into last years form by changing into a {more} attacking team

Columbus had a 'friendly' tonight with Universidad Catolica (Chile first
Div league leader) and it was a laugher in several ways... the Chileans are superior at foot on the ball but looked like a third division club in the first half as the Crew mids and attackers simply ran around them. Finishing was the Problem aith the Crew, as usual, as several 1v1 with the keeper were snuffed due to trying to shoot through the keep.

Stoppage time, first half there was a questionable call at top of the box which allowed UC to score on a Beckhamish direct over the wall. That's all she wrote though... UC had 3 SOG The Crew probably 10... but the Crew won 4-1.

Summary: Now you know why Jonny Walker is the Mutts backup keeper instead of staying with UC..UC's Defense SUX!!!!

Also got the feeling They play a slower more deliberate game than MLS. Crew had time to make really nice passes in the mid, but when they tried, we stepped into and took the ball repeatedly.

Still and all, the Crew still suck at finishing.. and there's no relief in sight ... though the players may have had their confidence lifted a little.

Well, as I should have suspected.. UC didnt bring their A team, 8 were on WCQ callup... but I dont believe they brought their "C" roster, either.

I Think that's the last time the Crew will sched one of these... getting tired of beating the snot out of yokels on holiday and then having them say "Oh, that was our reserves"!

But, to be fair, half of our starting team in the match were reserves. And all the goals except Marshall's (his first with the team) were scored by Reserve starters.

A nice 2-0 win over FC Dallas for the Fire tonight! That is a big three points for Chicago! Kansas City comes to town next Saturday. I hope the Fire can keep it up.

that's more than nice.. that's breakthrough!

Now I can root for other teams to beat the Fire, again... I dont like kicking teams when they're down; get enuff of that with the Crew.
    :)

But you're going to DC Wednesday, and it'stime for them to get off the mat.

I did not even look at the "fixture list" until now and you are right that the Fire play at DC on Wednesday. While it will be tough to get three points there, anything is possible. I have faith once again in the Fire.

Dammit, the Crew just took the lead over the Fire. I feel for the players as it is an oven here in Chicago temperature wise. Around 95 and with humidity, the heat index must be at or above 100. I hope the Fire can at least equalise.

And they did, 9 minutes or so later.... ended with a 1-1 AWAY, so things are looking up for the Crew... they didnt totally suck.
Well actually they havent totally sucked the last couple games, this one they kept at it for a full 90+... but this game's stats will show they need serious help in scoring from set pieces and learning what to do once they get the ball in the Red Zone.

Meanwhile the Fire is now gonna start the Alpine stage of the season.. well, the foothills anyway.

They got their losses to big guns out of the way early and will go against the likes of Colorado, DC and Crew as well as San jose... of those the only hot team is SJ.. but DC and Galaxy may be desperate for wins.

At this stage I pick the Fire for 2nd in the east and third single table.

Crew and DC wont make the playoffs. But both will spoil chances for other teams.. funny thing is it's the Crew that's gonna put DC back under the line where the Mutts are now.
DC will spoil Colorado, letting RSL in; Crew will spoil DC, leaving Mutts as the squeaker last minute qualifier
