The Fire takes over the nominal top of the East table, despite its 6 losses compared to NE's 2. But that is transitory, since the Rev's have played three games fewer than Chicago and should easily take 4 points from those 3.

Metro's continue to show they're finally gonna be a contender by beating LA who are finally starting to display the mediocrity expected of a Steve Sampson team.

And, speaking of mediocrity, Chivas broke out of it for a day by beating fellow expansion team RSL 5-1 at Home Depot. Most of us MLS fans hope that's an aberration, of course, as we like RSL coach Ellinger and dislike Chivas' slogan, which implies: "we'll teach you gringos how to play".

And then there's Columbus... lost again, this time to the only team that had NEVER won in Crew Stadium in regular season; and the only one that should, after years of speculation about being moved and low fan support, be even MORE woebegon that the Crew.

Thus all the MLS teams had SOMETHING to point at as a bright spot this week, even Salt Lake could say "better to give them all those goals in ONE loss".

But the Crew is trying to recover by recognizing that, though they played an exciting game, and with more heart and fire in their attitudes than they displayed all season, they still lost.

    The Crew is beyond "motley"!

While I am happy the Fire are in first place I am realistic and know the Revs will make up the ground easily in their 3 games in hand.

One thing that bothers me about the MLS is the fact that the league does not take any breaks for World Cup Qualifiers and other International games. I know you cannot take three weeks off for the Gold Cup, but you could easily skip a matchweek when there are World Cup Qualifiers.
