I caught the second half of RSL v. NYRB last night.

Ugly football; great looking stadium. Uh, bagpipes?

I've seldom seen a more deserved red card then the one for the foul on Mathis. Angel should have gotten one also. It was exactly what happened to young Omozusi last season at home to Reading. There was no contact, but JPA came in with both studs up. In our case, intent was enough for a straight red. Evidently the ref last night missed JPA's challenge.

Doggie, did you go last night?

It was nice to see RSL not playing on some awful looking turf with Utah's football logos everywhere.

    Don,
I was there in force. Ugly football to say the least!!!! I'm disappointed with the performance seeing as how RSL has played very good of late, but no question their nerves got to them in that match. Stadium is AMAZING!!! I took some pics on the wife's camera so if I ever get those from her I will defintely post them. Great atmosphere...yes there were pipes although I didn't hear them where I was. So excited for the new stadium and am hoping for playoffs so can go to at least 2 more matches this year.

And congrats to RSL qualifying for the playoffs with a last-gasp equalizer last night.

Doggie, going to a playoff match?

Who needs the first 89minutes of an MLS playoff match? Now on to the HDC and get three there!

    MLS Round 1

All draws except the above mentioned RSL Chivas.

Certainly points out why it's important to have top seed for 2nd game at home.

Anyone watch CLB/KC... what a ping-pong match. You can put that down to the field.. minor league BB park. And super Lenhart did it again... he's got 6 goals in what... 270 minutes?

Also go to the MLSNet videos to watch Arnaud's goal against CLB. One of the prettiest you'll see.

Fog, I don't know if you saw any of the RSL match, but it featured the resurrection of the "next great American goalkeeer" of the early '90s. Zach Thornton was not only good on positioning and reflexes. His hands were amazingly soft. He took a couple of screamers as easy catches.

Looking forward to the next round.

Canales does a 'Beers with...' column.

Franek will see some irony ... Andrea Canales and Greg Lalas encounter Crew fans in a NY bar during last night's game. Goal.commentary: One Beer at a Time

Zach Thornton... sorry Don, I'll believe it if he's still doing it next season.

That's a very cute and sweet article. Oh, and controversial, since there was beer being consummed and all.

That's quite 'Christian' of you ... considering how she treated you. I found her reticence on actually writing that piece quite revealing of WHY she treated your article as she did.

I agree. It is also quite revealing of why she sucks as a reporter.

Thinking about heading to the HDC for the first time this season to catch the second leg of the Chivas-RSL matchup. Watching Sacha and Bornstein in person versus the young talent RSL has, should be good viewing (not to mention the most talented knuckleheads ever to don to US jersey in Mathis and Razov).

HD; I think what happened to Zach Thorton was the same thing that happened to Kevin Hartman...neither could never push themselves away from the dinner table.

While I expect RSL to advance on agg. 3-1. got to root for the Goats.
We were enough to see a Chivas match in Gaudalajara this summer and it was easily the best atmosphere at a soccer match I've ever been too.

I bought tickets this weekend for the MLS Cup at HDC at the end of November. Hopefully a team I semi-care for makes the finals.

Christian, this article was posted a week or so ago ... maybe even by me.

Just how far out of civilization is "The Beach?" Are you in one of those places that doesn't get "Grand Ole Opry" until Tuesday morning?

Franek I'll give you that Chicago isnt 'boring', but neither is the crew. The last few games hardly count.

I always give Brian his due, and I'm fully appreciative of his retirement to Chicago... I predicted years ago that was the only team he'd go to.

But Chicago doesnt deserve to win just because of that, any more than LA did because of Donovan or Beckham. For the Fire it was only a matter of shuffling players and payroll around, they hardly had to 'recruit' him.
