    Fire releases Herron, Frankowski
The Fire released former team MVP Andy Herron and high-priced 2008 signing Tomasz Frankowski on Wednesday.

Herron led the Fire in scoring 2006 but failed to find the back of the net this season. The Costa Rican forward did not have a goal or assist in 17 appearances with the Fire.

Frankowski also made 17 appearances with the Fire. He finished with two goals and two assists. The Polish forward saw his playing time decrease as the season went on and was recently very critical of Fire coach Denis Hamlett.

The Fire is now down to four forwards -- Brian McBride, Chris Rolfe, Patrick Nyarko and Calen Carr.

With Herron making $102,500 per season and Frankowski making $214,250, the Fire will now have more salary cap room to work with for the 2009 season.

*Columbus's Chad Marshall, the MLS defender of the year who is out of contract, might end up with a German club. His reps have apparently been in contact with a few teams. According to one source, his reps told a Danish club that they are looking to secure a $500,000 salary overseas. He earned $148,000 this year, not including bonuses and incentives. He could end up back in Columbus, but odds favor a free transfer to Europe.

*It's Dec. 1, which means Crew Coach Sigi Schmid is a free agent. Hello, Seattle?

    Hyndman on Ricchetti: Disappointed
But FCD head man is hopeful a compromise is possible.

    November 26th, 2008 . By: Buzz Carrick

Causing headaches for FC Dallas for the second straight of season is the continued request by Pablo Ricchetti to receive the larger contract he says he was promised when he signed with Dallas. Ricchetti has recently requested a trade to the LA Galaxy or a release so he can join a team in Mexico. FCD head coach Schellas Hyndman says he’s not pleased by Ricchetti’s most recent move. “It’s kind of tough for anybody in any working environment to walk into an office and say I’m demanding a new contract and a new salary. In our culture, that is not received very well. As a coach, I’m disappointed because this was a player that I stood by and supported completely.”

Red Bulls brings Mike Petke home

    By BRIAN LEWIS

Thomas Wolfe was wrong. Apparently you can go home again. At least Mike Petke can.

Hours after losing centerback Jeff Parke to Seattle in today's MLS Expansion Draft, the Red Bulls replaced him by taking Petke in the Waiver Draft.

Petke, 32, played in 134 games for the MetroStars, starting a club-record 129. At 6-foot-2, the Bohemia native and former all-star can provide the size coach Juan Carlos Osorio likes and the veteran leadership the backline lacked this season.

Parke was two games shy of breaking Petke's club mark, but is suspended the first four games of 2009 for performance-enhancing drugs, and was out-of-contract and looking for a raise or a chance to play in Europe. They also waived defender Gabriel Cichero, midfielder Gordon Kljestan and forward Sainey Touray.

    Buzz up!

Ever noticed that re-sign and resign have the same spelling but almost opposite meanings...

,,,funny. when I WANT to see an opinion on Ives' part, there is none.

In this case, I assume he left us to draw our own by leaving that item till last: to wit, Buddle to Europe.

Not only does that cause the Gals to bleed out even more, it's gonna be interesting to see if/when he flames out when he gets on the starting eleven.. at -get this- Rosenborg.

Why Rosenborg? I see 'Blonde, hot chicks'.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I would have thought that Marshall might rate something higher than BL2. Mainz is a great city, but BL2 is a hole from which nobody returns.

He's a quality defender with a lot of steel in him. He'd be better off in Holland or Denmark, or if that's too demanding, the SPL.

    Well, two issues there.

    1. Mainz appears to have a very good chance of promotion.

    2. Chad is just ONE good head knock, resulting in concussion, from forced retirement. it wasnt clear -last year- that he would even be back for the '08 season.
    - this may help explain why chad didnt get more caps

best of luck to Parkhurst. He's an elegant defender who's a little short of pace. I'm not making this comparison, but those are the words they used to use to describe Bobby Moore.

As for Marshall, I didn't realize that. I liked his guts and aggression in the MLS whenever I saw him. Good luck wherever, then.

Crew: 1 of 3 aint bad?

For the Crew, there were three key contract renewals needed to have a good prospect to repeat a great season.
It looks like only Schelotto will be back,

Marshall will probably sign somewhere in Europe in January, and Sigi's relationship with the Crew is now poisoned.

Schmidt will not coach the Crew next year
.. and, because of a non-compete clause, probably not the Sounders, either.

I'd like to note that travel time between Columbus and LA was a big issue in re-signing Sigi. If Skybus was still flying he would probably have reupped at the increased salary offered.

Crew to receive cash and allocation money from Sounders for Sigi's release.
