Not sure if this has been brought up before, but Man U will be playing the MLS All-stars at Reliant Stadium in Houston on July 28th (unfortunately a Wed evening). I've picked up some pre-sale tickets already. If anyone plans on going, let me know and we can try to meet up prior to the match and do a little tailgating.

Dontcha LOVE Jamey Rootes! He never forgets his soccer-love.

Go just to support his efforts to bring Soccer to Houston. Even though his official Business is NFL, he hasnt forgotten us.

And YES, WB, I AM pointing out the Crew connection, wouldnt you?

Lived a couple of years in Houston - maybe an excuse to get back... Even tho the weather will be horrible.

DITTO! I believe I've rounded Houston plenty on here as far as livability goes. I spent seve3ral lifetimes there, spread over a couple three day business trips.

However.. I wasnt just blowing smoke when I lauded Rootes, he's got the magic touch and if anyone can wave a wand and make that refinery stink smell like roses, it's him.

Read and check the major player behind the Curtain.

    "Dynamo announce.." my ass!

Come on now, its Houston not Pasadena or Texas City or Baytown. Soccer indoors, like it was always meant to be right? Maybe not, but I for one will appreciate the Air Con that night for sure. And I thought it was the shallow contintenal shelf that produced that picturesque water color similiar to a water treatment plant. Never really looked into it. I guess it is what it is.

    AllStar game

Well all the starting XI have been announced.
    - Kind'a cool graphic there

No real surprises, only conjecture on those left out.

And of course some wont play or will play little due to conflicting game scheds.

And some 'helpful advice for The Bruce': SI: MLS All-Star selections should include Bornstein, Henry

Actually not bad on Bornstein .. he deserves a little kudo for not living down to our expectations. I guess I understand including Thierry Henry, too... it just seems wrong.

    RE: AllStar game

Thought I would give this a bump just in case anyone is going and would like to meet up. If its not chucking down rain, the plan is to meet in one of the parking lots (not sure which one yet) before the game and have a couple of pops. Just let me know.

Enjoy and do a match report for us. I enjoy Bobby McMahon's endless "I don't understand the idea behind an all-star game." It's not unknown in the UK. At one time in the 60s & 70s there were semi-regular English league v. Scottish league and English league v. French league ties. These WEREN'T internationals -- just an opportunity to see the best in each league, regardless of nationality -- just like an all-star game.

Well, whatever the pure soccer enthusiasts say.. ManU fans got what they wanted after KC, where the MLS side looked good. Vs a collection of the best players in the league in what was for them a pick-up game.

Here's what's important - this is the worst that collection has ever looked. And it's probably a better collection than ever
Some are saying 'Go back to East v West' What the hell for? what difference does it make and who wants to watch E v W.

Heck.. I didnt even watch this one.

    Report: MLS AllStar Game

Got down to Reliant about 5:30 for brats and beer (and the ubiquitous puro) and it was pretty freaking mild for July Houston evening. Probably helped by a 15-20 mph wind blowing constantly out of the south.

The MLS team looked crappy and discombobulated and at times Man U made them look a bit stupid and way outclassed. But my expectations were fairly low for the MLS as these dudes had just about zero playing time together although some of the mistakes they made were not due to lack of playing together. Some were just plain silly. What kind of pissed me off was the fact they did not put Donovan and De Ro in till like the 73rd minute. Given the whole 'Donovan is the face of US soccer' and the fact I was a paying customer, I think he should have at least put in a full half (although I think Donovan played on Tuesday...so I have to give the MLS scheduler a big WTF?).

We had great seats, just about 10 yards from mid field in the lower third of the stadium (which were not even warm when the 1st Man U goal went in). Reliant is not a bad arena to watch soccer, although I think the pitch is a bit tight. Looks like they also brought the grass in on pallets based upon the checkerboard appearance but it looked like it played well. This is my 4th time going there for a decent sized soccer match.

Wore my Fulham kit but I am sure 75% of the Man United bandwaggoners wearing red probably don't even know that Fulham is a Premiership team and probably can't go any deeper than Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal in their knowledge of the other teams in the league. Lots of Red and quite a bit of Dynamo orange in the crowd. Nice for Ching to get a goal and an assist to De Ro on the second for the Hometown crowd (wish those two were both still wearing orange). Gibson's goal was awesome.

All in all, I think I got my entertainment value. And even though its Man U, this is probably the only Premiership team I will watch in person this year. :(

Oh yeah, I was impressed that 70,500+ showed up as well. I wasn't quite so impressed when 70,500+ tried to leave at the same time though.

Well I was impressed with the 70,500+ "American" crowd too until they gave Donovan, the best USA player of all time and recent WC hero, less applause than the 19 year-old, still needs-to-prove himself Hernandez just because he is Mexican and signed for ManPoo.

It really is too bad that Buddle and Donovan were wasted by playing in the 4-1 thumping of the Galaxy by PR. For those of you who think the cup club competitions are more important, I think Arena has weighed in on what he thinks should be the priority.

Chingy's goal made my night of course. I sure hope someday we hear the truth about why he didnt make it to South Africa.

MLS mids could not link up with MLS forwards. Lack of cohesion yes, but credit to Johnny Evans and Wes Brown for closing down and not alowing any space. Young Cleverley looks great. Any chance we can get him on loan?
