Marco Silva

I know it’s not official yet but Peter Rutzler is reporting that Marco Silva will be the new manager and that Luis Boa Morte will be on his staff.

I'm glad to have this out of the way. I have no strong feelings about his appointment. He had success prior to coming to the Premier League and during his time with Hull they were out of relegation form, they were just already in a hole that was too deep to get out of. His time with Watford showed him to be a bit of an ass. He seemed to have done okay at Everton and may have been caught in an unfortunate situation in the second season without some of their better players. So I don't know. He could be great or he could be poison and destroy the team.

 

Will give him a shot, but odds of him making it thru the season aren’t great by judging his track record. Quit Hull over the rugby team messing up the pitch. As @daddude7 said on the roster thread, he got fired at Watford because Everton was wooing him…then he’s was a disaster w/the Toffees. Love love love Fulham legend Boa is coming with tho. Will have to hope Silva wants to prove a point, commit to a club and not be quick to see if the grass greener…

 

I don't think it's a bad hire, but like most of you, I think the timing of all this seems crazy.

 

Another .500 (basically) coach (sigh). We'll have to give him a chance, but it's a pretty underwhelming appointment.

 

From the little bit I’ve read of him at least it sounds like we won’t be seeing an over abundance of sideways passing. I will wait in hope.

 

I honestly don't know how to feel about this appointment. With the exception of Slav, none of the Khan era appointments have had me excited, most of them I was scratching my head.

Silva did well with Hull, he started well with Watford and then fizzled when most said his head was turned by Everton. Then he finished about where you would expect Everton to, his first year, then disappointment allegedly due to injuries....that's the positive spin on his experience in England.

His track record prior to England was mostly pretty good.

The negative is he has not stayed anywhere for long, and thus he seems easily convinced the grass is greener (of course Slav seemed the same in this regard) while at least two of the three clubs felt the same, meaning they would be better off without his services... and rumor is he is impulsive.

I personally think he will leave sooner rather than later and will find working for Tony Khan a real unpleasant experience. I have zero faith or confidence in TK other than he might try and spend a lot on players to try and rehabilitate his standing with Fulham supporters and the league in general, which is at an all-time low, and even then, he will likely be held back by Ali Mac, who seems to be one of the only adults at the club.

 

I realized today that I can't tell the difference between Marco Silva and Colin Farrell.

If you showed me this picture and said "Did you know Marco Silva is a big supporter of kids with Down Syndrome?" I would have said "That's great!" and then you would have said "You dope, that's Colin Farrell, duh!"


And if you showed me this picture and said "Did you know Colin Farrell and Luis Boa Morte are best buds from elementary school?" I would have said "I didn't know Boa Morte went to school in the US!" and then you would have said "You dope! That's not Colin Farrell, that's Marco Silva. ... and by the way you are a double dope because Colin Farrell is Irish, not American."
