You know Arena had to have thought about it. And Maldini could literally cash-in on the current wave of Europeans looking for a final BIG paycheck.

    Source? That seems pretty far-fetched.

I can't recall the website, but Wynalda rates it highly.

Isn't Maldini only 28? He's got to have at least 2 or 3 more years for Milan, right?

    28 + 10.

So he could squeeze in perhaps 2 more years. Think of the money he could draw from NY'res, especially Italians.

Maldini already makes plenty of money in Milan. I don't know how we New Yorkers would possibly provide him with more.

As a RBNY fan and a sports fan in general, I'm opposed to this. As a RBNY fan, A) we've already got plenty of egos on the field (Reyna, Mathis, Angel, Kovalenko) without throwing (admittedly) an all-time great in there too, and B) our back line has been performing well and have a good understanding with one another, and I don't generally believe in messing with groups that have good chemistry. As a sports fan, I think it would tarnish his legacy as one of the all-time great one-club players if he were to come to NY to play out the string.

During the Toronto match last week the announcers relayed what MO Johnston had said, that he gets calls from Euro players and their agents every day, but there always asking for big wages and he's not paying them.

If MLS was paying inflated wages to these guys far more would be over here by now. If Maldini wants to come play in America thats great but he'll be taking a pay cut to do so.

Ugh. The MLS is quickly turning in to the highest paid retirement community in the world.

Anyone else see the logic in paying millions of dollars to someone who has maybe 2 or 3 years, and yet only paying many other members of the team less than $50k.

Heck, some of those kids could be in the military and make more. And I thought WE weren't paid enough.

If Real Madrid had been playing Beckham, he wouldnt be in LA

If Scheloto had been playing regularly for Boca Jrs he wouldnt be here..

If these guys love to play and want to play, they'll come in and play, especially as most of them could take a drastic cut and still do better than if they just retired and went after other opportunities.

Look at Beckham... Everything considered he made a genius deal, he had two OTHER reasons to come over; to promote his academy and for Posh to be around her celeb chums.

Why would Maldini come over? If he's starting and/or playing regularly for his team, it wont happen.

And Toronto is overpaying the people they already have. Fortunately their attendances will alleviate that mistake.

Right, which is why I think FFCinPCB was making this up all along. 8)

I mean, seriously, Maldini has made all the money he could possibly ever need, he's been playing for his hometown team for 22 years and counting, just won ANOTHER Champions League medal, has a 11-year-old son in Milan's youth system... why on earth would he play anywhere else?

One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish.

I didn't make up the fact that I was proposing it as a possibility. That was all.
