Alright, the final for the third Premier League spot that all us Yanks have been waiting for, Leeds v. Watford. Or more fittingly, Eddie Lewis v. Jay DeMerit. So what do you think? Who would you prefer to see participate in what could easily be characterized as the most competitive football league in the world? Who would you most like to see Fulham take on next year? Me? As much history as Leeds has, and as much impressed as I am with Eddie Lewis making the U.S. squad, I'd still rather see a scrappy DeMerit and Watford make the jump. Should be fun to watch that final either way.
I'd love to see them both in the top flight -- especially since Eddie didn't get a break when he was up there last, but I'm not sure he'd be one of the players they'd keep and start. Jay, on the other hand, is playing consistently at man-of-the-match level and would be a core part of a Watford Prem team. Then again, I spent a lot of time shivering on the Elland Road terraces during the Don Revie days, and no proper Hatter would ever wish Watford well, so ... I'd love to see the match, though, just to hear "USA USA" from the fans.
I'm hoping Leeds wins. No reason really, other than I like to listen to Chris Moyles Show (yeah he can be an ass at times but oh well) on BBC Radio 1 and he's a Leeds fan, so it'd make for some fun radio next season.
I'm too torn to vote. I really like Lewis and wish the best for him. Plus, he's a bit older than DeMerit and won't have as many chances as him now. However I used to live in Watford, so all my old schoolmates and neighbors are probably pulling for them. But that was 20 some odd years ago, and they never write. Tough choice. I guess whatever happens is fine by me. But if I definitely had to make a choice I would choose Watford, so all those traveling Fulham fans don't have very far to go.
I definitely want Watford to win. The main reason I want Watford to win is because I fear what Leeds could do in the Premiership. Leeds is a club that should be in the Premiership year after year. Similar to West Ham, a good part of the club's history has been spent in England's top flight. That being said, I would guess that if Leeds does make it up, they will do quite a bit of investing and spending for new players to avoid the drop and solidify their place in the Premiership. Not to say Watford would not spend, I just look at Watford as more of a yo-yo team that can up and down. As a Fulham supporter, I have to cheer for the team that has the better chance of being relegated next season and that to me is Watford. I hope we do not have to even worry about relegation next season for Fulham but you never know.
I am definitely pulling for Watford and a couple of you already gaive some of my reasons. I agree with Heather that the travel would be alot easier on Fulham fans and also, Tom mentioned that Watford would be alot more prone to go back down and seeing as its all about Fulham I have to agree that it would be better for Fulham. My last reason is that Leeds is full of dirty players as seen in their match against Preston. Their team was handed 10, yes 10, yellow cards of which Preston was handed one. Let Leeds stay down...we got rid of Birmingham (another dirty team) we don't need another.
Re: RE: Make the Jump! I second this Mike! They have been dirty this season and in their last few years in the Premiership they were the same way. Keep'em down I say!
